Sleep dep is good
Jul. 23rd, 2001 08:53 amYawn. I'm tired but happy. Saturday was my bachelor party and it was wicked fun. We went mini golfing and go-karting first. It was pretty rad but I got yelled at because Terry kept slaming his kart into mine. How is this fair? Beyond me.
Next we went to Victoria's for dinner. We got seated right away and the food was good. However, I ordered the cheese ravoli and was a little disturbed to see big hunks of meat in the sauce. Made no mention of meat on the menu. I did my best to eat around it and not cause a fuss.
After that we went to FunSet Blvd, an indoor 'playland/arcade' attached to a local theater. We played some Daytona and other racing/destruction games. It's still hard with me to part with money in the form of coin-operated machines, but it was nice to just forget about it and waste some money.
About 8:30 or so, we went back to Terry and Eric's apartment to play cards and PS2. We hadn't played poker in a while and it was pretty fun. Brian referenced Chee-tos as 'Caveman clubs' and I nearly pissed myself. We have such a good time when we're all together. It felt like it was about 90 degrees and we were all sweaty and uncomfortable. We took turns drying off our nuts in from of a fan, which didn't really help all that much.
Around 1:30am or so, things were winding down. Jeremy decided to stay at my apartment, so we took leave for there. Gave him the tour of the apartment and at this point it was about 2:15 or so. Neither of us was very tired, so we decided to sit and talk for a while. Jeremy and I lived either in the same dorm room or within spitting distance of each other for 4 years, and he has since moved to Milwaukee for another job. So it had been a while since it was just him and I, and it really felt like old times. We talked about our futures, how we are striving for simplicity, how technology is affecting the world, how we're trying to be less like assholes in everyday life, how we want to home school our children (not the children Jeremy and I are having, silly. The children we'll both have with our future wives), etc. It felt so great to just shoot the breeze and laugh. We went to bed around 4am, which in retrospect wasn't wise, but it was one of those nights that it had to be done.
Woke up around 10:00 or so, but tossed and turned a lot. It was still pretty warm outside and I had a severe case of the muggies. I dropped Jeremy off at Terry's place (where he left his car for the night) and headed to work. 12 hours shifts are okay, but mostly the temporary workers have a hard time grasping 'simple concepts'. But for every 'dim' worker we have, we have a first year worker who everyone wants to work with, so I guess it evens out.
Yesterday was more of the same, noon to midnight shift, hot weather and lots of campers to register. At least it rained to cool things off a bit.
Random thoughts for the day:
Jeremy got me Fast Food Nation for the bachelor party. I started reading it and it's great.
Jeb is coming to see JSBSB with me! Rock!
Why do so many upsetting assumptions exist?
Porta-potties are rather disturbing.
