Shoulder high in crap
Sep. 11th, 2002 04:08 pmAfter a long day at work, I headed to the polls and proudly cast my vote for the Wisconsin Greens. The process took about 10 minutes and was at the local VFW. A conflict of interest, but that’s just me.
Returned home and got changed to have dinner with Brian. Drove over to his new apartment (which I really like the layout of) and then went over together to China King. We were seated at a booth where the sun was right in his eyes, so he slid over and we both sat on the same side of the booth. There was plenty of room but it was still a different experience. I filled him in on the situation with Eric and got updated on his life as well.
We left with bellies full and went back to his apartment and talked for about an hour. I really feel like he and I have gotten close and it’s always great to talk to him. A stand-up guy and authentic, unfortunately he’s a rarity. He is loaning me his tripod for the Interview Project, so it’ll be quasi-professional. He needed to head off to Appleton, so we parted and I headed back home. Talked with Marie for a bit, scanned in some pictures and listened to
so_gracefully’s compilation CD with my Great Big Headphones and I really, really dig it. I think I’ll have some new CDs to snag with my recently-gotten gift certificates.
Upon coming to work today, I realized that there is a “change” with our insurance carrier. Seems that they are now requiring employees with “family coverage” to have their spouse take insurance at their place of work. Marie has the option of insurance at BBBS, but they do not have a provider, so it would basically be all out of pocket expenses for her/us. So, basically we would be paying more in premiums but not getting any more coverage for our money. I fucking hate fucking the fucking insurance fucking industry.
Tonight will be cribbage at Terry’s and probably little else. I’m concerned about my car and the new noise it is making. Whenever I accelerate, it sounds like a cross between a remote-controlled car motor and an electric wheelchair motor. I know Buicks are cars primarily for the elderly, but this just isn’t funny. It sounds a little worse today, so I’ll probably have to make an appointment for next week to spend money I don’t have.
I’ve just started re-reading (does that count, if I didn’t read it through the first time?) Henry Miller’s “The Air Conditioned Nightmare” and it is so unbelievably good. I’ve realized lately that I’m not a good reader in that I find myself sometimes skimming instead of actually reading. A few times I had to go back a half page and specifically pay attention. My neck/back are also starting to hurt again, so I’ll be hitting up the ice packs yet again.
I’ve flossed every day for the past 10 days and that, my friends, is a majorly major accomplishment. I’m also off to the Y tomorrow morning bright and early for some more weight training and treadmill usage.
