Something about the combination of feeling alone with the music and hearing all sorts of things you miss when being played on a stereo. At the Y this morning, I heard the bassline for Anarchy Means I Litter and it made me smile. Like I found a secret.

The weekend was short but good. Saturday Marie and I went to visit my grandparents in Appleton, which was just great. They so enjoy it when we come to visit and I think we are the grandkids who truly go out of our way to spend time with them. We showed them pictures from our trip to Seattle and just had a nice visit.

Speaking of which, pictures from our trip to Seattle.

After that we stopped by my parent's house to show them our pictures and also see my mom's home office. I'm so happy that she's able to work out of home. Going from a moldy basement with no windows to their den with fresh air and natural light is such an improvement.

We were supposed to get together with my brother and family, but for some reason it's a big ordeal to get together. They (he and his wife) work swing shifts, so it's rare that they are both home at once. He told me he'd call me on Friday to let me know if he had to work Saturday and if we could get together. Well, he never called. He stopped over at my parent's house while we were there and acted as if he didn't just completely blow me off. No apology, no anything. It's just frustrating when all we want to do is get together with them and visit my niece and they never seem to have time for us. I understand that when you have a child, your whole life revolves around the baby, but is it so hard to spend an hour together with family that wants to see you?

While that put a damper on the day, it was still a good one. Marie and I returned to Oshkosh and went to our favorite Chinese restaurant, which burned down and just re-opened. It was even better than before. Really good veggie soufle patty and a different type of coleslaw that was really good. I've made the concession to eat chicken at Chinese restaurants but no where else. Ultimately, I want to go meat free but am admittedly weak when it comes to Chinese food.

We also stopped and rented two movies. Panic and The Shipping News. Panic was good (William H. Macy, Neve Campbell, Tracy Ullman, John Ritter and Donald Sutherland), one I just picked out of the Nearly New section and thought it was worth a shot. The Shipping News (Kevin Spacey, Judy Denche and Mr. Kobayashi himself) was good, but not great. Seemed to be dragged out a bit.

I went through a box and a half of tissues in one day and felt overall pretty miserable. I think I need to get tested for allergies or something. Itchy eyes and sneezing quite a bit more than usual (which is usually quite a bit).

The rest of the weekend was spent scanning photos, playing Duke Nukem 3D (which will suddenly exit the program at random spots throughout the game) and writing some letters. I also worked on my love story submission, which will go out this week.

Sports stuff: Ha ha for baseball and Terrell Davis does NOT belong in the Hall of Fame. He was a product of the system, much like Kurt Warner is. Both are great players, but not among the best. And Go Packers too.
