What a fun weekend. Friday was tennis and chatting with Terry. I started off well, winning the first 3 games, but Terry had to be his usual bitchwad self and proceed to win the next 6 games. Sheesh. Went back to his place and waitied for [livejournal.com profile] jonnyv to get into town. He arrived shortly after we got back from tennis. He graciously handed over the HTRE poster he got with the cds and I, in turn, handed over the $15 I owed him. We sat and talked for a while. I headed home around 9:00 and pretty much went to bed.

Saturday started with a trip to the Y and some errands. Got a new wallet at Target and it's radical. I got my old wallet in either 9th or 10th grade from Carrie B. and Andrea and it was time for a new one. I'm anti-tri-fold, so I quickly scanned the Target racks for a nice billfold. The one that grabbed my attention is roughly the size of my rear pocket, which is perfect. Fits snuggly into the pocket and is very soft. Got home and watched Men in Black after a lunch of fake beef tortillas and french fries. Confirmed my dislike of the movie and post-Fresh Prince of Bel Air Will Smith in general.

Talked to Terry about our plans for the evening and spent some time cleaning up the apartment. Liz got into town around 6:00 and we headed out to Cy's to meet Terry and Danielle. Despite being busy and not having reservations, we got seated right away. It was our first time on the 2nd level (which we didn't know existed), a purple room with a nice atmosphere. I tried my sweet Malyasian curry with tofu and it was quite good. Extra rice, of course, was ordered to stretch the meal into two helpings of leftovers. Heard Danielle's story of teaching woes and had to laugh. When I was in school, I *never* had any idea what teachers have to go through, in dealing with students who simply don't care or parents who are simply nuts.

Afterwards, we headed to Deja Vous Martini Club in Appleton. It was the coolest (and only, ha ha) jazz club I've been to. We sat right next to the band (trombonist/lead singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer (drummist?)) and were chatting with them inbetween songs. For the first time in a small setting, I was the applause initiator - this made me friends with the band right away. They were really great; the guitarist was able to mimic other instruments (trumpet, harmonica) with his guitar. And of course, I got to gawk at the drummer, which was great. After about an hour and a half of visiting and mellowing out, we went to Park Central to get our dance on. It was hilarious and ridiculous, all at the same time.

It was like being back in high school all over again. We settled on the '80s' room and kicked out the jams to Jessie's Girl, YMCA and Funkytown, among(st?) others. The best part was watching a couple, dressed similarly, doing some jitterbug-type dance to EVERY song. Danielle did her best to emphatically 'YMCA' at them in a futile attempt to show that some songs have specific moves to go along with the music. Not even Stayin' Alive could break their trance. Plus, the DJ wouldn't play "Bust A Move", which almost ruined the evening. Still, I got to wrangle on the dance floor, which always makes everything better.

We headed out after midnight (after almost getting into 3 car accidents trying to leave the ramp - I've been raised to know that cars going in different directions need to respect the yellow dividing line and was apparently alone in this upbringing) and got home before 1am. I think the latest Marie and I have stayed up since the wedding. Eesh.

Sunday was the day to spend with my cousin Sara, to celebrate her birthday. We went to get her in Fond du Lac, shopping, out for lunch, back to Oshkosh to play LIFE and Nintendo, bowling and then back to Fond du Lac for dinner with my aunt and uncle. Sara has two sisters and we also take each of them for a "day" on their respective birthdays. It's fun for them and gives Marie and I a bit of 'parent training' to see what lurks in the minds of 8, 12 and 14 year-olds. Our asses were dragging by the end of the day, so we headed home, watched the rest of the SNL finale and went to bed.

I found a pair of Chinese balls (you know those that you are supposed to rotate in your hands, calming the hell out of your chi?) at Kohl's and have been playing with them frequently. I know take joy in knowing that I can tell Marie "I can't wait to get home and play with my balls!" on a regular basis.

Looking forward to picking up the new NOFX double album on Wednesday. $10 from fatwreck.com for 46 songs on two CDs. Joy? Yup, joy.

Burndt Jamb is one of the best songs I've heard in a while. Welcome back, Weezer.

Speaking of Weezer (kinda), last week I got Terry his Usher CD and also the latest Elton John CD for Marie. Each CD was $15. Brian got me a $15 gift certificate for my birthday last week, which I used to partially pay for my purchases. When the clerk told me that my total was $6.something, I was a little curious but didn't say anything.

Upon leaving and reading the receipt, he marked down the gift certificate correctly in the amount of $15, but deducted $25 from the total. I felt bad about it, because I prefer to support local businesses and feel like I, in an indirect way, ripped them off.

So, on Saturday when Marie and I went back to Exclusive Company and I got "Maladroit", I asked the clerk (a different guy than last time) if he could charge me an extra $10 to make up for the difference (after I explained what happened). He said that he appreciated my honesty, but it was the clerks fault and he "didn't care" about the error, telling me to keep my money.

So, should I have been more forceful about giving the money back? I gave it a shot and feel better about trying to return the money, but did I do enough?

Anyway, tonight is dinner with Joy and Julie in Appleton and exchanging Michael Moore's "Stupid White Men" for another book, as I already had it when Carrie B. got it for me for said birthday. So I'll hopefully find "No Code" by Naomi Klein (I think) as a suitable replacement.

If Cuba gets free elections, the US is going to want them too.

I don’t have issues with rockstars wanting to be rockstars, I think I’d be the same way if it was me, but probably to a lesser extent. If it was an obsession with making money, I doubt they would have leaked the MP3s ahead of time. If they wanted to cash in, they wouldn’t have released any songs ahead of time and make people wait (and buy it) when it came out.

I agree that Weezer is a much different band than they were in ‘94 when the Blue Album came out, but then again, that was 8 years ago. Isn’t change/maturity good? I’d rather have a band make a “different” album instead of sticking to the same formula over and over again. You’re not going to have as large of a fan base, but if they are making the music they want to (which I think they are), what’s the harm?

I’ll forever place the Blue album on a pedestal (if I owned one) because it is a fantastic record. I just don’t think you should discount everything post-Pinkerton just yet. The Blue Album has grown on you for years and years, Maladroit has been out for about a week.

Re: re: pppps. Do your balls make a chimey sound when struck together? Mine do!
