Thursday
Holy frick, playing the drums was fun! I picked up Brian around 7:00 and we went to his practice space, which is an old hotel room, on the second floor of our Main Street. It's right above a Christian Bookstore, which must make for interesting comments down below. He set up the drum set for me (since I'm a righty) and we played along to some sheet music and a CD. Any question as to my uncoordinatedness were answered last night. Yeesh. But it was fun and Brian was a great teacher, patient and helpful. I'm excited to listen to music now and see if I can pick out certain parts. I'm in awe of drummers.

I think the best part was one of the 'practice' pieces we played from the instructional book was the opening to GNR's "Paradise City. Scary, scary stuff.

Directly from our corporate newsletter:

"On Thursday, we welcomed more than 300 business and civic leaders from the Oshkosh area for an "Excellence in Leadership" luncheon. The featured speaker was Don Soderquist, the recently retired vice president of Wal-Mart Corporation, who spoke on leadership ethics. We welcomed the opportunity to host this luncheon and showcase our museum and facilities to community leaders."

A speaker from Wal-Mart speaking on ethics? Doesn't get any more ironic than that...

The Weekend
Friday was the chiropractor appointment. Got there around 3:30, filled out some forms asking me what religion I am, if I'm satisfied with my sex life, among other questions, had to watch a propaganda video about how great going to the chiropractor is, got X-rays and an adjustment, had the "doctor" (I use the term loosely) order supplies over the phone with me sitting right next to him, had the doctor ask me to answer his phone for him while he was put on hold (he had to go check on my X-rays or something) and then was gleefully told I have scoliosis and that he would go over what that meant with an appointment on Saturday.

I was ready to call him out on his unprofessionalism, but decided to let it pass and go back on Saturday with Marie. Upon returning, we got to watch another propaganda video about how drugs and surgery will only make the problem worse, and the best and only solution was (drum roll please) going to the chiropractor! We met with the doctor and I told him that I wanted to take my X-rays ($150, what a bargin!) and go elsewhere. He was shocked and dismissed my claim that patients shouldn't have to work as receptionists for the doctor with a "Oh, that. Yeah, I can somewhat see you having a problem with that." He then acted like a child "Yeah, go ahead. Take your X-rays." and "wrapped up the X-rays" by rolling them into a tube and putting a rubber band around them. Sheesh. So, I'm going to do what I should have by going to see Marie's chiro and hoping to get better service.

The rest of the weekend was loads of fun. Carrie A was in town, which was great. We haven't seen her since the X-mas party and I'm hoping we can take a road trip to KS to visit her sometime soon. Friday night was chewing the rag with the group and sharing good stories. Saturday was helping Julie move to her new apartment (and the cause of my sore back and arms today) with the How to Host a Dinner Party at my parent's house at night. Marie was the killer, can ya believe it?

Sunday was my cousin Jenny's first communion, which meant a great meal at my aunt and uncle's and good times with the family. First busy weekend we've had in a long time.

Got home Sunday afternoon and spent the rest of it playing The Sims. It came in the mail on Friday and with the exception of tragically dying in a kitchen fire (note to self: Never attempt to put out a fire when you have no energy. I think I fell asleep on the burning stove), it's been wicked fun. I wish we could have different neighborhoods, so I could have a real-life house, LJ house, etc., but I'll make due.

This week should be a little quieter, I'm hoping to get the rest of the BBBS website done and get my car (and back) in for repairs. We'll see...
