Well, what a lovely yesterday off. Marie and I set aside the day to spend together and not have any other plans to interfere. We spent most of the morning (after sleeping in until a record 8:30!) cleaning up the apartment and getting straightened up. Felt good to get cleaned up. I played around on the computer some and Marie did some reading. We had lunch and watched A Dating Story on TLC. Damn, that is addictive. That’s the kind of reality TV I can get into. Although I’m sure some would rather eat a rat than go on a blind date. That is one thing that I probably would fear as well. Luckily with Marie, we were already so close through our friendship, we didn’t have the dating awkwardness.
After lunch we went over to South Park and played some tennis and laid out in the sun and read for a while. It was nice, except for the lady and her two kids that were sitting near us on a park bench. Lady brings a loaf of bread to feed the ducks (which Marie and I also did) with her two young sons, Anthony and David. The only reason I know the names of the children was because in the 30 or so minutes Marie and I were near the Lady was because she was screeching (not in the Mr. Belding way) at them non-stop. She yelled at them for throwing too big of pieces of bread. She yelled at them for laughing. She yelled at them for being loud. She yelled at them for being too close to the water. She swore at them.
Now, admittedly I’ve never had kids nor experience in raising them, but here is my take on it. If you bring kids to feed the ducks in the park – 1) they are going to get excited 2) they are going to yell and laugh 3) they are not going to take the time to systematically break up the bread into Lady-approved pieces, they simply will want to feed the ducks. I don’t understand how Lady couldn’t understand that repeatedly yelling and raising her voice at her sons was not having the effect on them she would have liked. I give her kudos for spending time with her kids and doing something fun, but why ruin it by acting like a monster?
Anyways, after that we came back home and watched Cast Away. I thought it was good and was a little curious as to how the movie would keep moving with only Tom Hanks on screen. I thought it was a little implausible but a good movie. I won’t ruin it by mentioning any specifics, but why the hell didn’t he open up the boxes as soon as he got there?
After that, we watched some tv and did some reading. It was a nice and relaxing day, and unfortunately we have too few of them. I’m looking forward to post-wedding life and the ability to have some stress reduction.
Random thoughts of the day:
In less than a month, I’m going to be the “groom”. Why the word “groom”? It makes me feel like a horse, in a way.
I could never be the FaxMaster2000. I tried twice today, but to no avail.
I enjoy watching Dubya’s approval numbers plummet. Can we call for another recount?
I’ll be putting up pictures of Marie in her car in a few days. Still need to download them from the camcorder. Insurance is expensive.
I’ve got a bunch of pimples that I don’t want anymore. Anyone interested?
