Kids in the Hall was Friday night in Milwaukee, and it was fantastic. Left work early and got to Milwaukee around 5:00 Found Andrea's place no problem and got the tour of her new place. Very nice and in a great neighborhood. Talked with her boyfriend Tim for a while, as he hooked me up with 5 Dead Kennedy albums that he burned for me. In return, I'm copying my Rollins' Spoken Word albums and some Dismemberment Plan stuff too. Hooray for communism.
Eric, Lori and Brian arrived about an hour later, as did Eric's brother David. We dug into the tacos (and thoughtfully-offered veggie burgers for Marie and I) and had a nice meal. Kristie arrived and informed us Jeremy would meet us there. We loaded up and drove to the Riverside Theater and hooked up with Jeremy enroute. Got inside and found our seats, but not before seeing a guy with a cabbage on his head. Primo.
Our seats were pretty good, with the usual lack of leg room. They had three screens with altering videos of old KITH skits and other stuff. The lights dimmed after about 20 minutes and a guy came out and played a song on electric guitar. At first, I thought it was Dave Foley dressed up, but I was wrong. After he left the stage, the lights went out and the familar theme song began to play. It was fantastic. They played for two hours, starting with Dr. Seuss's bible and ending with a surprise party gone wrong. All of the original kids were there and it was great. Mark McKinney, who I hoped would not be on stage actually had the best bit, when he was the 'crushing your head' guy. He came onstage with a video camera hooked up to the screen on stage, so we could see where he was looking, etc. He heckled the audience a bit and, with apologies to The Judds, got it on with Kevin McDonald. It was everything I thought it would be and more.
Jeremy and Kristie hung back and Jeremy got Dave, Bruce and Scott's autographs. Lucky stiff.
Dave Foley looked like he put on about 30 pounds; I can almost here Lindsay Shaw's heart breaking.
We headed back to Andrea's afterwards and 'chewed the rag' for a bit. We hit the road around 11:00 and had a nice ride back. Brian and I sat in the front, while Marie and Lori sat in the back. I think Brian and I could just talk for days, he's one of the few people that I think is really listening when I'm talking and I respect that quite a bit. I'm excited about taking him up on his offer of taking me to his practice space and banging on the drums with him. Tre Cool, I'm comin' to getcha!
Dropped them each off at their respective apartments and feel into bed when we got home.
Saturday started out early. I was at the YMCA by a quarter to eight and then off to get my oil changed, a stop at Target for some essentials and then to the auto parts place to get Marie new windshield wipers. It's the small stuff that counts.
Wipers ended up being the wrong ones, so after lunch I went back and found that they didn't have the kind I needed there. Made up for it by getting custard at Culvers for us both (Cookie Dough Explosion or some such nonsense). The mail came and I was overjoyed to see that
jonnyv came through and sent me face to face's How To Ruin Everything along with the bonus CD. While I didn't have a chance to listen to it all the way through until this morning, it was well worth the wait. Only one song I don't particularly care for, but I'm sure it will grow on me, as they all do. Along with
vegasdemilo's mix tape, I'm in music heaven.
Saturday night was pretty quiet. I did some reading but was exhausted given the 6 hours of sleep I got the night before, so I was asleep by about 9:30.
Sunday we went to church and then headed to meet Terry and Danielle at Cy's Bistro for lunch, only to find out that it's *next* Sunday that they start being open on Sunday. Drat! But it actually turned out for the best, as we tried the Hong Kong Buffet across the street, and it was fantastic. Lots of menu items and lots of good food. Chatted with Terry and Danielle for a good hour and a half. It's been forever since we've seen Danielle; was nice to catch up and with seeing them next weekend, feels like I'm more in the loop. Stopped by my parents and got some mail and hauled my yearbooks back to Oshkosh to relive some memories. I think I need to post some of the writings my classmates scribbled in those back pages. All those inside jokes that we thought we'd never forget have faded with age. I did get someone to put in their Senior Quote "BM: Jay and Silent Bob will rule the world".
Spent the rest of Sunday playing some of the new game demos I downloaded (this super hero game and Deus Ex) and reading. Also, watching the Pearl Jam video for "Do The Evolution", which is hands down the greatest video I've ever seen.
Got up early and went to the Y again, this time without falling off the treadmill. Ah, the baby steps of progress. Still am not able to bend light poles in half, but I'm working on it.
Goodness, I haven't had an update this long in a while. This week will be relatively busy, as I've got a lot I hope to accomplish with out the intrusion of television. Hoping to get a bunch of letters written and get a lot of reading done. I also need to spend more time just listening to music.
Incidentially, I think you may have a staring problem
While sitting in church, I was pondering the fact that the question "Do you believe in God" comes up into everyone's life (repeatedly) while the question "Do you believe in Satan" rarely does. Is evil a given and good a matter of belief?
Thinking is fun.
