Bring on the weekend
Jun. 29th, 2001 11:47 amAhh, Friday. This weekend Marie and I are heading up to Eagle River (about 3 hours north of where we live in Wisconsin) to her grandparent’s cottage. 2 days of pontoon boat rides, sunshine and home cooking. What else is there? We leave after I’m done with work today.
So I was having a discussion with my supervisor yesterday about technology. It was interesting, because she’s got a newspaper background, so she remembers the transition from typewriters to computers way back when. We both pretty much agreed that technology was advancing too fast and the gains we make from it are met with higher expectations and stress. I was glad, because I mentioned about reading the Unabomber’s Manifesto and didn’t want to come off as too big of a weird-o. But of course, last night we went and got a cell phone and are in the process of buying a new car and I’m wondering if I’m being a hypocrite. The cell phone is only for emergency purposes. We frequently go to visit Marie’s mom, dad and grandparents, the closest of which is a 2 hour drive away. With my 13 year old car, reliability is an issue. I just hope that we don’t turn into people who live and die by their cell phone, as I’ve seen friends and acquaintances do. I’m just finding it difficult to strive for simplicity and live in this modern world.
So anyway, I guess I’m no longer a columnist at Mr. Ridiculous. I sent in my May column in (you guessed it) May. Didn’t get published with the rest of the May columns. Just got an email that the June columns are posted as well. Didn’t get published with the rest of the June columns either. Ah well, I thought my pure anger against Ameritech was good column fodder, but I guess not.
We’re also buying a car. It’s a 98 Dodge Neon and it’s pretty nice. Will be the Marie-mobile. Looking at getting all the info before we head up north tonight and making the purchase on Monday or Tuesday. Rock on.
Random thoughts of the day:
My fingernails grow at an alarming rate.
Why can’t there be music clubs that people can join that feature good music?
Naps are cool but usually make my groggy when I wake up.
Are all grandmothers awesome cooks or is it just me?

There's been some weird things going on, with Malice gone and now back again, James posting the columns for a while . . . I dunno. But it's no good thinking that it's just plain gone for no reason.

He'd think of a foolproof trap for the big blue boyscout.
