The time has come.
Jan. 23rd, 2002 02:33 pmIt’s not often I post journal entries to join the masses against a common enemy, but I feel that it’s time to do just that. This enemy is strong, fierce and potentially deadly. No one knows what he will do next. His is unpredictable and prone to fits of rage. He is a menace to society and needs to be dealt with. While the public takes great joy in watching him and following his deeds, it is only because there is money to be made by doing so. It’s time to put a stop to this enemy and pattern and make him an example to the rest of the world.
It’s time to put Mike Tyson to sleep.
For years, we’ve had to put up with this meat-headed buffoon and looked the other way at his fancy for raping women and chewing the ears off of fellow boxers. It is time. He will be in a better place (Hell) and we won’t have to hear about him ruining other people’s lives and threatening to eat their children. The Fresh Prince can fight him, I just want him put down.
I have this odd craving for potato salad. The odd part is I’m craving the kind that our commons would make in college. We would usually get it with the “To Go” lunch on the side. It was either potato salad or a cup of mayo with two or three macaroni noodles floating in it. I like the fact that I have complete control over the food I eat now, but sometimes I just miss that potato salad.
Last night I did indeed bust out the Nintendo and had brief encounters with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SkyKid, Goonies II, Ninja Gaiden and Techmo Bowl. Fun stuff. I’ll have to devote more time to Techmo Bowl, because I threw three interceptions by the mid-point of the 2nd quarter. I was LA and wasn’t into football back in 89, so I have no idea who the good teams are. John Elway was the only name I recognized on the rosters as they scrolled up screen while waiting to press ‘Start’.
Planning on heading to the library and possibly Exclusive Company tonight, and maybe hooking up with Brian. He’s got something for me, and I’d like to pick it up tonight if possible.
Found out the package from UPS was actually the books I ordered from http://www.thesunmagazine.org, just with a weird sender’s address (Crystal Electronics or some such nonsense). I highly recommend the magazine and the website, it’s got a great message boards with lots of in-depth discussions and conversations. I’ve yet to register and post, but will hopefully do so soon.
Random Thoughts of the Day
Content Management Systems make me wanna barf. The director of our Web department is hell-bent on putting our intranet (which I update and manage) on the CMS, while I feel it basically makes it as sterile and uninviting as possible. Showdown at 3:00 today.
I’m in Deep Thoughts mode about taking PhotoShop off my computer. I got a ‘free’ copy from a friend, but it’s a beta version, so it’s not really pirated software. I can’t exactly be all up in arms about the Eric issue if I’m a hypocrite, now can I? I think I need to do some soul searching on this one.
I get to buy some cereal tonight. Aldi’s has the best Peanut Butter Crunch cereal for like a buck a box or something. Tastes better than Bart Simpson’s Peanut Butter Crunch and is way cheaper. Excellent.

Old video game systems rock

Date: 2002-01-24 05:34 am (UTC)I heard some bad things about the Sims, like it gets repetitive fast and takes like an hour for one Sim to use the bathroom? I was hell-bent on getting it about a month ago, but then read on www.epinions.com that it wasn't all that great. Care to share your opinion of the game?
Re: Old video game systems rock
Date: 2002-01-26 10:15 am (UTC)I love the Sims. Everyone I know has become addicted to it. It is true that it is repetitive after a while, but a lot of sim games are. I mean, so are the racing and football ones too (cept I don't play them). I haven't played the Sims past Livin' Large yet, because I hadn't put on the House Party or Hot Date expansion packs. Now that I found out that the games will install on my new puter (wasn't sure cuz my new puter has XP) I'll probably never leave it :P.
Oh, from what I was seeing from bad reviews on Epinions, it's from people who don't really understand how to play the game. Like the one person whined about how her character always left trash on the ground, but it's because her character had a low neat rating, nothing more than that. And also you have the choice of putting them on free will, which makes them act for themselves, so the complaints about them wetting themselves or starving to death are just stupid. Also when people whine about there being no concrete ending-sim games aren't like that anyway. With the new expansion packs, the complaints about staying in your house can be changed (hot date allows you to go out on dates). Um, it's a bit frustrating that the only way you can advance in your career is by making and keeping friends, but I guess it's not that bad. Hot Date stops the repetition by making it so you can't use the same actions within a certain amount of time as far as with human to human interaction (from what I read in the strategy guide, but I haven't played it). Nothing's more fun than making your characters get into catfights though :P. Um, if you're more into action games you might not like it that much. My bf likes playing roleplaying games like Final Fantasy and games like that and he enjoys it, and I for one am not much of a gamer, so for me to enjoy the game says something. I could just spend hours making my sims look like people I know, and spend the time looking for new objects and such online.
So yeah, I recommend it. If you have some questions you can just ask. I mostly like the game, but I will list some possible cons.
-Can be repetitive
-Takes a while to do normal tasks, which can be frustrating-especially when you are trying to make friends.
-Making and keeping friends can be difficult, but that's not so bad now that there's the new expansion packs. And it's a strategy game anyway, so of course it's gonna be a bit difficult for some things.

Date: 2002-01-26 12:19 pm (UTC)I have heard so much good about The Sims, I should pick it up and give it a whirl. But Balder's Gate II is supposed to be pretty radical as well. Just what I need, more time on the computer ;)
Thanks for your input, I found a place on-line that is (was) selling The Sims for $20 (just the jewel case), but the order never came through for me. Maybe I can scour eBay for it. I think it would be fun to make a world with my friends in it , make everyone single and see what happens.
How do you like XP? My dad got a new computer and he loves it. I'm about ready to throw 98 out the window with as much as it crashes.

Date: 2002-01-26 12:26 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure I played Bomb Squad and I do remember playing the bowling game. My brother plays Balder's Gate. Apparently that one's pretty good, but it's not really my style. Sometime I want to get Black & White, and there's some sorta sim game out that you create your own castle, which would be cool. I can't seem to remember the name of it right now.
Re: Old video game systems rock
Date: 2002-01-28 01:31 pm (UTC)Maybe I should focus on getting XP first. It's so aggravating to be working on something and have it crap out for no (good) reason.
Re: Old video game systems rock
Date: 2002-01-28 01:45 pm (UTC)I got all of the sims games installed now. I was playing Hot Date a bit last night. It's pretty good. I don't like the fact you pay 15 dollars for a hot dog though :P.

Date: 2002-01-28 05:27 pm (UTC)Maybe they take the lips out of the hot dogs in the game, hence the higher price. ;)
