Friday
After a treacherously long day at work, it was nice to go home and have a weekend to unwind. The day was made especially slow without frequent emails from [livejournal.com profile] vegasdemilo, who was away on a snow tubing activity for her radio show. Bummer. She (and I) write the quirkiest messages to each other, mostly rambling off the tops of our respective heads. I’m anticipating a list of her favorite Real World cast members (in chronological order, by season) in response to my list of favorite Real World cast members (in chronological order, by season). Suffice it to say, I had a crush on all of the females of the Seattle cast. Meow!

Brian and Terry were supposed to come over Friday night, but it ended up that Brian had to work. Curses! But I did get a call from Terry around 7 or so that he’d be over between 8 and 8:30. He had just gotten back from Steven’s Point and had to eat, do up some laundry and get some supper. Marie and I watched some television and played some more Rummy 5M. We both have yet to break the 14,000 mark, so we’ll be in for a L O N G tourny.

Terry came over and we spent most of the evening just shooting the breeze. Finally found out that he’s got some ‘marriage’ plans to Danielle, which is encouraging. They’ve been going out for 6 years now (roughly), and I figured they would be next in line for the alter, after Jeremy and Kristie. We had such a nice evening and I’m really glad that Terry and I are as close as we are. We talked about our spring break trip and if it’ll get off the ground or not. I sure hope so, I think it would be so so so rad.

We wrapped up the evening with some Yoshi (his insistence, yet again) and, well, I schooled his ass yet again. He is improving rapidly, but I still hold the title of Master of the Universe (we played best of three). Terry departed around 11 or so and Marie and I turned in shortly there after.

Saturday
Woke up to a snow storm (the second snowfall since a year ago), which was a little peculiar. I needed a haircut, so I patiently waited in the living room, munching on a bowl of cereal for Marie to arise from her slumber and get her snip on. Marie has given me three haircuts since purchasing the hair clippers, and this one is the best so far. Perfect in the front and just the right amount off the sides. I’m a freak about my hair, and it’s the main thing I ‘worry’ about for my appearance (as evident by my string cheese gut and Notre Dame-esque posture).

After that we got ready to go. I phoned my grandparents who live in Appleton to let them know we’d be dropping by. I love visiting my grandparents, because to them, it’s like winning the lottery. Always so happy to see us and just plain fun to talk to. We made it to there house around 10:30 and had a nice, hour long visit. Talked about our jobs and the weather and family, par for the course. My grandfather told us of a new furniture store (he lives for the Sunday paper flyers) and we told him we’d check it out.

We departed and had an unsuccessful trip to the furniture store where we bought our couch and loveseat. First of all, the set we bought has been discontinued (how cruel) so they couldn’t order a swatch of fabric matching our couch to compare with other furniture we’d be buying. And finally, they didn’t really have anything that we liked in terms of a chair and ottoman.

We left, a little discouraged and a little hungry. We headed to Red Lobster and had a feast. It’s one of Marie’s favorite restaurants. Since I despise seafood (sorry fellas), I’d usually be out of luck. Except for the fact that they have the best pasta dish; Cajun Chicken Linguini. It. Fucking. Rocks. And I can usually get two meals out of the leftovers. We dug into the biscuits and salad and had a great meal and conversation. Marie got some sort of shrimp and vegetables over pasta, that she happily devoured.

After that we went to the new furniture store and found a great chair and ottoman. It’s an ivory color with a slight pattern, should look nice with what we already have. The delivery people should be calling at the end of the month for delivery. Marie wanted to go to a craft/gift shop next door, so I headed to the CD exchange. Brought in a box of CDs of our own and went through their selection. Almost bought a Black Flag rarities disc, but since I’ve never heard their music with the exception of a 30 second song on the Fat Wreck Chords sampler, I thought I’d best wait and try to borrow something from a friend.

Marie came in shortly there after and we collected our traded in CD cash (3 Green Day singles and a Rolling Stones best of disc for $7) and hit the road. Headed back home to get some groceries. Grabbed a bunch of cereal and some fresh fruit. Also got ingredients for a new skillet recipe that sounded quite good.

Spent the rest of the evening watching some football and going through some mail and papers that needed to be dealt with. Marie and I watched Chasing Amy (have I mentioned how much I heart Jason Lee?) and I hopped on line to see what was happening. Chatted with [livejournal.com profile] dream4distance, [livejournal.com profile] xjustinx, [livejournal.com profile] reject, [livejournal.com profile] vegasdemilo, and [livejournal.com profile] jonnyv over the course of a few hours and was also happy to see that I sold my copy of MS Flight Simulator (which I got free from work) for $20 on eBay. Joy.

Sunday
Woke up early and played some more Death Rally and watched some television while Marie dozed in bed. I always wake up early on weekends since I feel it’s ‘my time’ to do whatever I want. I hate sleeping for the sake of sleeping, yet I usually don’t get a good nights sleep on the weekdays, when I need it more. Huh?

Watched the pre-game hype, got showered and dressed and rooted for the Packers as they beat the stupid 49ers. I think the Pack has a shot at beating the Rams, but not a very good one. Will be mighty tough to win in St. Louis but I think if they could pull off the upset, they could very well win the SuperBowl. But let’s not put the pulling out before the penetration, ok?

After the game Marie and I played some cards, I had some more fun with Death Rally and we made supper. Our new recipe included tons of veggies, including black beans. Now, usually when something smells like dog food and is contained in a dark liquid that looks like it has sand particles in it, I pass on ingesting said something. But this time, for the sake of being a better eater, I decided to bite the bean, so to speak, and give it a shot. Basically it was a pasta dish (odd, tasty pasta that resembled sunflower seeds) with tomatoes, broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, vegetable broth, black beans and mozzarella cheese. It was pretty tasty, and very filling. I feel like I ate a tire. But it was probably the most healthful meal I’ve eaten ever and I hope it’s the start of a more balanced diet.

I think Marie and I will watch Home Movies tonight and just take it easy. By week’s end, I’d like to have a list of questions to start my interviewing project. Hopefully, something I can work on discretely at work.

I heart Jason Lee WAY more than you do.

When the Packers beat the 9ers in 97 (I think they played them in the playoffs that year) I lived on the same floor as a huge niners fan, named TJ. Everytime the Packers scored (which was a ton), I called him and asked him the score of the game.

In retrospect, it was a horrendously assholish thing to do, but at the time, I enjoyed myself.

I like Mariucci in that I think he's a great coach, but the team pretty much can go take a long walk off a short pier.
