Thank God it’s Monday? Yeah, right. The weekend was pretty good. Left for Wausau on Friday night after work, got there around 8:00 or so. I started on Dreamcatcher, by good ol’ Stephen King. It’s pretty good and will keep my busy for a few days anyway. I’m about 200 pages into it and the story rotates between 4 friends and how they are reacting to a very strange situation.
Saturday Marie and I went to a local bookstore to get some paper for our programs and stopped by the church to drop off said paper and the rest of the info we had regarding our ceremony. Also had to stop at Target to get me a new belt. We got back around 10 or so and left for Eau Claire. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Wausau and I was in the driver’s seat. We did take Marie’s mom’s car, so we saved ourselves some gas money that way.
We stayed at the shower for about 6 hours or so, it was nice. A small gathering of Marie’s mom’s side but lots of good food (I consumed no less than 29 ham roll-ups in the past 3 days) and nice gifts. With our 3rd and final shower behind us, it feels good to have them done. Not like they are taxing on Marie and I (other than the travel), but it just seems like the wedding should be here now, we’re ready for it. Next up for us will be Marie’s dress fitting on July 3rd.
Saturday night I did some more reading, but more tried to fight off slumber. A fruitless battle, I decided to hit the hay instead. I had a slew of weird dreams, one in which I went to where my friend Eric works and asked the receptionist if he was there. She asked me for his ‘codename’, and I figured it was his Hot ‘N Now nickname, which is Kooter. She was ‘appalled’ that I used such language and threw me out. Eric was outside by his SUV and he had his hair cut and styled just like mine. Peculiar.
Sunday morning we took a ride out to a retreat center (about 10 miles from our reception site) that we’re going to have our pictures taken (weather permitting). It has a really nice garden and there is greenery everywhere. I think it’s going to be pretty cool. We headed back and had a nice lunch, then hit the road for Oshkosh. We got back around 1 or so, which was nice. Did some grocery shopping, unpacked our stuff and laid around for a while. I continued to read more from the Manifesto, and I’m finding difficulties disagreeing with it. A few things that don’t make sense from a transcription perspective (I don’t think it was typed up very accurately) but other than that, pretty well thought out stuff. Nothing to make me want to mail bombs to people, but good reading all the same. I’d post a link to the website I found it, but it wasn’t that hard to find. You can do it.
Tonight I’m going to see my Little Brother’s baseball game and probably helping Marie clean up the apartment. We’ve got to go through our earthly possessions and either have a rummage sale or take a few trips to St. Vinnie’s. The accumulation of Tupperware and clothing is just getting to be too much.
Random questions of the day:
Why aren’t calculator and telephone buttons laid out the same way?
Where do cliché’s come from?
Why isn’t junk mail illegal?
How do keyboards get so filthy?
