Knock down, drag out
Jun. 18th, 2001 03:13 pmHow can Saturday and Sunday feel like they combine for about 3 hours? Had a good weekend but just about 5 days too short. Friday I got my haircut and scheduled the next haircut, which will incidentally be the last haircut I get as an unmarried man. There is significance in that somewhere, but I am not bright enough to figure it out.
Saturday, Marie and I did some shopping and went out for lunch. Went to see Shrek as well, it was about what I expected it to be. I have come to the realization that Mike Meyers needs to make more movies. Saturday night had us heading to Appleton to look over the Saturn used car lot for some wheels for Marie. Found a few 1998s that fit what we’re looking for. Test drives will be coming this week along with VIN investigation. Hope to have Marie behind the wheel by the end of the month.
After the car shopping, we headed to Terry’s parent’s house for a cook-out/birthday celebration for Terry. He’s the big 23 as of last Friday. While playing Frisbee outside, I experienced my first black eye. I was going for a Frisbee at the same time that Eric was going for it, and we collided. I think his finger (or the edge of the Frisbee) hit me in the eye. Nothing too drastic but it kinda hurt. I’ve got a bit of a scratch under my right eye and it’s a little on the purple side, but hey, it gives me character.
Sunday I spent the early afternoon of with my dad and grandpa at the EAA Museum. Free admission for father’s and it was very beneficial to me to see how much it meant to my grandpa to be able to show him all of the airplanes and to listen to his stories of when he was in World War II. I know that someday there won’t be the opportunity to hear him recount the past and discuss his history.
Sunday night I played the Super Bowl on PS2/Madden 2001 against Combo (he of the Raiders and I of the Buccaneers) and won my first trophy, 21-14. It was a great game, close enough to keep it interesting. I switched franchises from the Bucs to the 49ers. Time will tell if I can turn that franchise around. I had some pretty high draft picks, so I should be able to at least have a .500 season.
Random thoughts for the day:
Honey mustard is quite possibly the greatest condiment ever invented.
Traveling abroad would be pretty cool. Keep your fingers crossed.
Why is it the people who show the most outwardly and obvious belief in God are the ones who make you fear God that much more?
I’m reading a book on the 7 Principles of Making Marriage Work. It’s not half-bad. A little hokey at times, but I think it’s important for those who have been in relationships for a while. The excitement and newness wears off, so more effort has to be put into the relationship to make it fun and enjoyable. Next on my reading list is a book on the evils of Wal-Mart. Fuck, Wal-Mart is even in the spelling dictionary of Microsoft Word. *shivers* Thanks in advance to Danielle for letting me borrow it.
When in people’s lives does it make sense to pierce their genitals?

Date: 2001-06-21 06:56 pm (UTC)Thanks for the comments. Marie and I met at college, and we're getting married in 6 weeks. I've got the whole story on my website.

You can check under my rants and raves under 'Love' or under the wedding section for further info. I wrote some stuff up on WalMart under my rants and raves as well. Ever have the feeling that society is headed in the wrong direction? That's probably 89% of the rants and raves I have. I tend to get wordy, but you know, it's a rainy night here and I'm sure a lot of them read like journal entries.
I'll check out your journal to learn more about your bad self as well.
Keep fighting the good fight,
Brian
