I’m beyond happy because I’ve gotten *two* nights of good sleep in a row. I think it’s been helping to a) have some wind down time before I go to bed to rest my head (reading or listening to music) and b) get ready for bed (teeth brushed, face washed, etc) beforehand so when I am tired, I can just crawl under the covers.

I had a pretty good night last night, in that I got to play more Fallout 2, clean up my room some and also start reading a fantastic book that I recommend to everyone to check out. It’s called “The Future of History” and is a series of interviews with Howard Zinn, my main fucking hero. I’m not sure of the interviewer’s name, but I did a search for Zinn at the library and it came up. Simply fantastic.

I went to bed early and had a good sleep. Was really warm under the covers so I had to crank up the fan to cool off. But I only chalk my ability to get up due to I would have wet the bed if I didn’t. A little glass of water before slumber sure makes its presence known.

Nothing too happening at work today, I put up some posters for our United Way campaign this morning at a few different locations, which was adventurous and gave me the opportunity to stretch my legs.

Random thoughts of the day:
If we rebuild the WTC towers, aren’t we just claiming that we are invincible and stupid?

I’m glad to see that the innocent people who died in the bombings magically erased history and brought back to life all the people that died on 9/11. God bless Dubya.

I’m thinking about discovering an island far away and starting a utopian society. Anybody else want to come?

I can probably hijack an airplane or two from work and we can make our way airborne. But then again, given current events, that might not be the best strategy.

Any utopian rules you can think of to get us started? I'm serious, let's get the hell off this continent!

hmm. that's tough. i did come up with an alternate parliamentary system once.

i worked it all out and drafted a constitution. my teachers liked it. a lot. like i think one of them stole it for his thesis, the prick.

but since we're only gonna have about 50 people max, it would be kind of absurd. i say a simple marxist commune would work fine, at least until we start having kids.

that implies that we have to have enough girls around. and i'm all for that.

let's get a setup like the book/movie the beach, and i'm there.

oh yeah, and i'm basically like fucking macguyver. i can make a bomb out of a paperclip and two sticks of gum or whatever. (try urine and car batteries). but i can't cook, so...

and we need a doctor. no kidding. and a mechanic. for real.

I think we'll have to have some sort of system about the roles we'll need (as you said, doctor, mechanic, hunters, gathers, etc) and keep it to necessity only. Also, maybe import people who could use the place to live (homeless people, etc) but that might be too lofty for our new society.

I'm a pretty good cook, so I'll make lunch while you're out exploding evil-doers or re-routing streambeds. I've got friends who know how to make works bombs too, so I can get some info on that. I have a feeling we'll need internet access on our island, which might be difficult. Are we going to eschew technology or use it to our utmost advantage?

utmost advantage, but with the common sense and decency to make as little environmental impact as possible. there's volumes written on alternative housing and alternative power.

besides, it seems to be mostly corporate excess that ruins the environment, whether in the form of tourism, waste disposal, industry, commerce, agriculture, or war.

i just think we can't expect to go totally native and retain what parts of art and culture we cherish and wish to nurture through the coming dark age. that is part of our goal, right? a new kind of monastery? a co-ed order of the sacred whatever?

though an island paradise with internet access would be ideal, perhaps a secure location in some mountains away from US borders would serve just as well. it would be easier to wire, anyway. and snowboarding is at least as fun as surfing. plus plagues and insects don't like the cold, now do they? =]

i don't think accepting the needy is too lofty at all, but it's survival that's most important. if someone built a place, and proved it could be done, others would follow. that's what we do, as a species.

feh. i'm babbling. i've thought waaaay to much about this kind of thing, bro. i'm not a kooky kleatus, i swear. i'm not so interested in alchemy for purposes of blowing up evildoers as for blasting rock or making gunpowder to reload bullets used by hunting parties, assuming the ubiquitous vegan element allows that. and i've got some tech manuals for that stuff, but i'm looking for a copy of Acrobat so i can make some pdf's.

hey, we ought to put together a cd full of info, a 'how-to'-diy- separatist colony. heh. i'm gonna start researching this weekend. as far as figuring out what roles need to be played, it sounds like we're gonna have to go oldskool comic book geek and roleplay a utopia to find out. cross The Sims with Baldur's Gate and Fallout and see what pops out, eh?
