Well, yesterday was a pretty frustrating day in terms of customer satisfaction. Marie and I spent the afternoon doing some shopping. First stop was Best Buy to return broken scanner #3. I was told that since I bought the scanner with a store credit (the voucher they mailed me since it was covered under the extended warranty I had to buy), I could only get store credit back. So I took the gift card and just finished composing a letter to their corporate “Consumer Relations” department. I simply want my money back and am more than willing to send in the gift card in exchange for a check. If I don’t get what I want, further steps will have to be taken. I’m more than willing to devote my energy to harassing Best Buy if they don’t cooperate, but I don’t think it will come to that.

After that, we hit up the mall for some shopping (I got new socks and undershirts, Marie got a pair of jeans and a sweater). It was pretty much all I could bear to be in the mall for that long, I just have no tolerance for these shrines of consumerism. And there we were, being a part of it, just as guilty as everyone else. Yuck.

We then stopped by the movie theater to get gift certificates for my parents. Then we headed to a florist shop to get some flowers for my parents, given all they’ve been through the last few weeks. Finally, we hit Cy’s Bistro, which has the best Thai food I’ve ever had. Also, I tried tofu for the first time. It was kinda weird, spongy and chewy, but I felt better about my food choices, so that was good. I got the Thai with basil (veggies and rice with a great sauce) and Marie got the Vegatable Pud Thai, which was also quite good and tasted a little peanutty. Yum! We also got a gift certificate for dinner for my parents there, so they can enjoy dinner and a movie for their upcoming birthdays.

We stopped by my parent’s house to give them the flowers and also chat for a bit. Made plans to watch the Packer game over there on Sunday and probably help my dad get some lumber beforehand. He has a workshop in the basement and loves to build stuff. I feel quite manly when I go to Menards with him.

Anyway, when we got back to Oshkosh I found out Justin and Carrie B. called. I got in touch with Carrie B. and we chatted for a while, she filled me in on her crazy adventures. That girl is more fun than Daytona. I also made some progress in Fallout, which is pretty cool. I just keep basically killing everyone and it seems to be the right thing to do in the game. Well, not everyone, but most everyone.

Today I get to go out to eat with my department since it’s our Payroll Administrator’s birthday today. The coolest things about EAA is that when it’s your birthday, you have to bring treats for your fellow employee. One of our recently retired employees, formerly in our accounting department, makes these kick ass sheet cakes (homemade) in lots of different flavors (Ho Ho Cake is my favorite). Anyway, people can request that she make the cakes for birthday treats. Between October 1st and October 6th, 10 EAA employees have birthdays. I’ve been on such a sugar rush this week it’s not even funny. Frosting coursing through my vains, the whole nine yards.

Random thoughts of the day:
I’m wearing my favorite boxers today. They are a soft flannel and make me feel stylish.

I’m listening to Cake right now. I think I need to get their CDs, because I always get “Short Skirt, Long Jacket” in my head. Good tunes. Oh yeah, and that Bill Hicks CD is called Relentless, not Restless. Stupid me, man, fucking stupid me.

I enjoy shaking other people’s hands. I think that’s one of our best social norms, it just feels comfortable.

Carmex tastes like shit, but it works pretty well. Only the first part of October, and I’ve already got chapped lips.

I’ve almost got a new rave for my website. It’s been ridiculously long since I’ve updated it. I had a dream last night that James told me he really liked that I helped him out with the interview I laid out for him. I also had a dream the Detroit Lions beat me as the Seahawks. When you dream about Madden 2001, you’ve been playing too much.

You played the Trombone?

That's awesome! No other instrument is as fun to play (we do it in seven positions)

Who do you think will win?

Well, the Seahawks have been stinking it up for the most part, and I think the Jags are ripe for a win. With Hassleback AND Watters out for the game, I think the Jags win, and win big.

I only took the trombone because my mouth was 'wrong' for the saxaphone and trumpet. Third time is a charm!

I can't play reeds either, but I do play the trumpet.

I think drums would have been a cool instrument to learn, but all the weirdos took percussion. Which I guess means I would have fit right in.
