There was a time not long ago when shoe shopping was an exciting endeavor. New shoes were what got you noticed on the playground. A new coat? Coats are lame when you're 8 years old. New pants? Yeah, big deal. But new shoes? Destination: Awesomeville. Population: You.

Now, shopping for shoes is a pain in the ass, because I need to search by size instead of style/function. Such was the case last night, except Payless might be my salvation. I've searched and searched for non-sweatshop clothing and footwear, but the attempts have been futile. Anyway, I found some sandals, a pair of Skeetcher-esque boots and a pair of tennis shoes - once they all get located and ordered, I'll likely only be set back $60 or so. Not too shabby.

I injured my shoulder recently, either while mowing the lawn or while busting moves on Marie. Either way, I think I need to change my technique.

Work has been busy lately, in a crappy kind of way. Last year during the performance evaluation process, everyone complied with my reasonable deadlines and things were oh so smooth. This year, it has been just the opposite. Someone's going to get fucked over in the process, I just know it. I think I need a career change. I like the people I work with (for the most part) and am competent at my job (again, for the most part), but I've got no real desire to be here. Not a whole lot is pushing me and it's been rather draining lately. Not a quarter-life crisis, but close I suppose.

Payless rules! Think of sweat shops as a place where children can purify themselves of toxins.

I tried when I bought my sandals last night, but I still couldn't get clean in the shower this morning.

Hey, three pairs of shoes for $60? That's an excellent deal! Congrats.

I injured my shoulder recently, either while mowing the lawn or while busting moves on Marie.

I think this warrants a massage. Professional massages feel goooood.

That's a good idea. Either that, or a trip back to the chiro.

Whoa. I injured my shoulder recently, too.

And I think I just made it worse busting a move on Jenners.

I think this might make us cousins or something.

All "move bustery" aside ...

If you like the "work shoe," I recommend Grinders. They're like Doc Martins but they look a bit more classic and they hold up a lot better. The last pair I had I probably wore 350 days of the year for three years before I finally had to get new ones. They cost ~$100, but considering how long they last you're saving money on it.

Just a thought.

Very worth it - I'll check them out. Do you know if they come in size Huge?

Thanks!

Hmm. I just recalled that you don't live in the DC area. I get them at Smash! here ... If you have a spot that sells punky stuff they probably carry them there. They're British and rather hard to find.

I don't know what size "huge" is, but I'm a Brit. 11 (Amer. 12) and I've never had any problem getting them.

Just checked the site - they look great but I'd likely need a 13 or 14 American.

The search continues...thanks just the same.
