Sick of it all
Oct. 19th, 2001 10:56 amSo yesterday I woke up feeling pretty lousy, and called in sick to work. Head filled with fluid and a sore throat does not make Thursday a good day. I tried to go back to sleep but once the sun comes up, I’m pretty much awake.
Spent most of the day watching television and cleaning up the apartment. Did some reading and played some Fallout 2 as well. Oh yeah, and I defragmented my computer and listened to some Rollins. I tried a new recipe for a broccoli and cheese casserole that was pretty tasty (and easy to make).
Last night was Madden 2002 duties for year 2 of our new franchise. We welcomed Coach Truant to the league as the Houston Texans (worst franchise name ever). By his own prediction, he’ll be a 2-14 team. I like the Shaun King to JJ Stokes connection, but he did get blown out by the Titans 48-14. Time to build, plus the mofo has about 35 million in cap room whereas I have about 2. He’ll get no sympathy from me. The draft and free agency period went pretty well, I got a few players that will be good for me, but I’m very cap strapped and have about 20+ guys that will be free agents after this year. Many will be playing for a roster spot, but I think I’ll be all right. Time will tell.
I played my first game and lost to the Redskins 10-0. We bumped up the difficulty level to All Pro (from pro) and it shows. Hope to complete game 2 and maybe 3 on Sunday. We just fly right through the seasons.
That pretty much sums up yesterday. Just another average day. Today I’ve got some work to do in terms of recruiting and things to update, so that should help make the time go by a wee bit faster.
This weekend will consist of a date with my wife, spending Saturday with my cousin Jenny (in celebration of her birthday a week or so ago) and spending Sunday probably helping my brother move into their new house and watching the Packers say “Suck It” to the Vikings. Is that passive-aggressive sexism?
Random thoughts of the day:
Missing work is kinda fun.
I’m realizing how affected by the weather I am. Gray skies outside = glum Twicketface. Perhaps I need some Vitamin C?
I’m wearing my new sweater today. I generally dislike sweaters, but this one is pretty comfortable and the sleeves are (get this) too long! What a luxury.
Just one more plug for the wedding pictures, in case you want to see them:

More after I work on my column that is due today.
