Last night was pretty fun. Dad and I had dinner before heading over to his friend Steve's house to drop off some boxes and a gardening book. I brought along a section of the EVWoD for him to identify and it's some sort of ivy. He recommended that I pull most of it out or I'll have twice as much once the summer comes along. I'm excited to work on the landscaping as the weather warms up as we didn't have much time last year by the time we moved in and got settled. After leavin Steve's, we headed over to campus to see Nancy Cartwright.
We had some time before the show started, so we chatted a bit in the minivan. Dad said how much he wished he could've gone to college and it made me sad. He's accomplished so much in his life through sheer hard work and determination. I wonder where a college education would have taken him (and me, for that matter).
Anyway, Dad was worried that he'd be the oldest person there (at 54) but I was pleased to see many people of all ages in attendance. When I first walked into the room, I thought I stumbled into the 2004 Greasy Hair and Sweatpants Convention. Seriously, Comic Book Guy isn't just a character - it's apparently a way of life. Nancy Cartwright was good, but not great. She comes across as very full of herself in person, as she did in her book. Maybe it's a result of not being a celebrity for who she is, but what she sounds like. We got to see video clips of all her voices and a 'Day in the Life' feature that was pretty interesting. She opened it up to Q&A at the end and I did get to ask her a question regarding the rumored movie (she didn't have details other than she really wanted it to happen), so I asked her to have Ralph say "I'm a gulch!", which she happily obliged. It was neat.
Didn't get home until 10:30 and the cats were rightfully displeased with my absence (Marie was in La Crosse last night and will be home tonight). Luckily, she fed them before she left so they were only starved of attention.
I'm leaving work early today to put a zero-hour deposit into my Roth IRA before April 15th. I'm also playing cribbage with Terry and hope to pad my 5-2 lead (the first lead I've had in roughly three tournaments. I know!).
Lunch tip: Leftover mac and cheese can be brought back to life with a touch of alfredo sauce.

Date: 2004-04-14 09:05 pm (UTC)I'm thinking all Butterfly Effect-y.
I look back at all the little quirks and turns my life had before I met D. In hindsight, I realize that if not for A, I wouldn't have gone to B, which wouldn't have led to C, the eventual D, and lastly E, hence preparing me to be in a marriage. Even something as seemingly commonplace as getting my degree ontime probably would have altered where I now am.
