8's are called snowmen
Jan. 7th, 2004 11:09 amLast night, sitting in a poorly decorated hotel room, I realized why I can never have cable TV again.
It's all I would do.
Since dropping down to basic service when we moved in June, my television viewing has dropped by at least 50%. I spend more time on the computer but also spend more time reading and listening to music. I'm used to limited options for television: ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, UPN, WB, public access, PBS and that channel that always has church on it. Last night I had 74 channels to pick from. And pick from I did.
I spent two hours watching Celebrity Poker Showdown and am making plans to spend the rest of my life playing nothing but Texas Hold 'Um. For anyone who saw the episodes, I was glad that David Cross won and was rooting against (literally pounding the bed with my fists and crying out "Lose, you fucking hack!" to) Scott Stapp. There are few people in the music world I despise more than Mr. Creed himself. He spent the entire time a) not knowing what to bet (at one point, asking what 'call' means) and b) arguing that he won hands that he clearly lost. Um, a pair beats high card everytime, Jebus. Even Mitten knows that. To top it off, the charity he was playing for was his own. Tacky? Unbelievably. I was pleased when he lost and am ashamed for admitting so.
I also watched most of Insomniac and the Daily Show. I miss Comedy Central. A lot.
I wound down by reading Dude, Where's My Country (which is top notch, by the way) but didn't fall asleep until after midnight. The first thing I do upon entering a hotel room is throwing the comforter on the floor. I'm not comforted by the thought of covering myself with a sexual-drippings-and-drool-encrusted blanket, thanks. So I was cold last night, wrapped up in the sheet and thin blanket, curled in the fetal position hugging one of three too small, too poofy pillows.
After a breakfast of Froot Loops and a bagel, Imade mway to the EC office. (yes, i'm still typing on this stupid laptop). I went over the orientation stuff with the new intern, met the new sr. manager and have been catching up on a few minor things until I can leave (around noon).
Tonight I'm hleping my dad put the finishing touches on our bookcases. They are going to be awesome and we need to come up with a thank you gift for him beyond taking him out to eat.
I need to lift weights again tonight. The thrill has not (yet) worn off.
