SNE should not be a way of life
Jan. 6th, 2004 11:31 amI'm in the Stevens Point office today. I have a nice corner office with a comfortable chair and a desk I can fit my legs under. I'm going to Eau Claire tonight and then to the Eau Claire office tomorrow. I'm typing on a laptop. I hate laptops. I also hate cell phones. About 40 minutes ago, I figured out why. I'm big. Laptops and cellphones have small buttons/keys on them. It makes mee typei liek this if I d'ont go back and fix my mistakes. See, annoying. Also, the Fn key is where the Ctrl key usually is, and that's annoying too. Grr, argh.
I started lifting weights again and the soreness feels quite nice. I forgot my swim trunks for the hotel tonight, so I might just walk around the hotel or run in place in my room. It'll be nice once I'm in shape. I might go permanently topless.
So, I didn't realize this, but my new computer has both a CD burner and DVD burner on it. I burned a full length CD in under 30 seconds on Sunday. This is down from about 25 minutes on the old computer. In theory, I can now burn all the Dr. Katz episodes I've downloaded and put them onto DVD. Hmmmm....
Yesterday was a little depressing. We fired someone yesterday. This person was the first person to help me out when I first started and we worked closely for the first 6 months. Working in HR is hard because you can't say the things you want to say because people will then sue you. So I had to lie to this person for the past few weeks for a number of reasons. I'd be worried if I didn't feel bad about the whole situation. But it still makes me feel like the bad guy.
In happier news, I hosted my first 'Poker Day' on Friday. I fretted about it for weeks (is our kitchen table big enough? Will we have enough food? Will everyone show up?). It was honestly the greatest time I've had in months. Everything worked out well and everyone had a good time. If I'm lucky, the pictures will turn out cool and I can post them here. Our next adventure will be a road-trip to visit Terry in Michigan (myself, Jon and possibly Brian B). We're shooting for a week in early February, which isn't that far away. I'm good at saving up my vacation time, so I'll have about 5 days from 2003 along with the 16 days I get for 2004. That's like, 80 hundred days.
And now, before I gnaw my arm off, I'm going to get some lunch.

Date: 2004-01-06 10:29 am (UTC)Knowing somebody is about to get fired is hard. I was in your position once, years ago. All my guilt was assuaged, however, when the person that was fired came back and yelled at me. He kept exclaiming, "Why didn't you tell me this was going to happen!" He wouldn't accept my answer that I simply wasn't allowed to.

Date: 2004-01-06 11:13 am (UTC)It's hard to have my job and be liked. It's strange - I'm not the only one who delivers bad news, but I think I'm seen that way at times. Probably just overreacting due to the proximity of the event.
And just for the record, I'm not a stupid poophead. I *did* send you a Christmas card but the stupid poophead who works in our mail room didn't notice that it was Canada bound and didn't put enough postage on it. I'll send it to you sometime in April so as to surprise you.

Date: 2004-01-06 11:36 am (UTC)Hey, if you send it in April? Cross out the "Merry Christmas" and scribble "Happy Birthday". I'll never know the difference!

Date: 2004-01-06 11:10 am (UTC)I think it stands for function, as in "My only function is to annoy Brian".
