Whose house? Our house! (say what?)
Apr. 18th, 2003 02:54 pmWe got an accepted offer for the house on Regal Terrace. The place will be ours once the inspection and appraisal are done. Oh, and after we actually pay off the mortgage. We will close at the end of June.
Marie and I are very excited but nervous too. It's a big change and a huge financial committment. I just knocked on wood that we both maintain being gainfully employed and it doesn't turn into "The Money Pit", staring Tom Hanks and Shelley Long.
It's a quad level home. Main floor has a living room, dining room and kitchen. "Top" floor has the master and guest bedrooms and a full bath. The lower level has a 'family' room, bedroom and another full bath. The lowest level is more like a rec room (finished and carpeted) and has a partition for a laundry room and some storage. Huge-mongous fenced in back yard and 2.5 car garage. 17 years old and kept up very well. All new carpeting, newer roof, etc. We're planning to close at the end of June to have time to get out of our apartment lease and get everything together on our end.
The only downside I see is that the dining room set we bought might be just a little too big. But if that's the biggest problem, I think we'll be pretty lucky.
So yeah. I expect y'all to come and visit sometime. This weekend we'll be putting the finishing touches on the offer, handing over our earnest money and keeping the mortgage process moving. I'll miss our kitchen, but not the washing machine that always leaks and the dryer that never worked, having our bedroom 10 feet from the dumpsters, mysteriously staining carpet, parking outside in the winter, having neighbors live (and seemingly body slam each other) above us, getting stopped by the train tracks right by our driveway, the Sea Hags that inhabited the pool area 14 hours a day in the summertime and flushing away rent month after month with little to show for it.
I'm going out for lunch with Andrea and getting her house key so I can let out her dogs while she's in Utah. I need to look into a career in Professional Puppy-sitting. Win-win, all the way.
