Mmmmm, unexplained bacon
Apr. 7th, 2003 05:01 pmSaturday was a long, long day. I was out the door at 8:00 to stop by my parent's house and drop off a book for my mom and pick up an old pair of computer speakers, in hopes that they'll work better than my current ones. I then went to Eric's and we played tennis (indoors, of course) for a while. I was victorious, but pretty rusty. We got showered and changed and parted ways briefly. I headed to the mall to get some essentials (undershirts, socks and a belt) while he grabbed some groceries. We met back up, Jon joined us and we headed out for lunch.
Marie and I then had a mortgage appointment at 1:00. Our lender referred to me as Rainman because I remembered the phone number of my previous employer. I didn't take it the wrong way. I think he'll be the lender we go with. Afterwards, I met back up with Eric and Jon (and eventually Jeremy) for some cards at 'the clubhouse', a building in Eric's apartment complex that has a big screen TV, workout room and hot tub. We had it rented out for the evening, despite the fact that other residents could some in and use some of the facilities. So much for bottom-less poker.
Terry joined us around supper time and after wincing at the Marquette game, we decided to head out and play some Daytona. Nothing like going to an arcade to make me feel like a dirty old man. Have I grown up this fast? It also must have been prom for a local school, because we saw a few couples mistaking NFL Blitz for a black-tie event. The Daytona machines were working, but not linked up, so we each played against ourselves instead of against each other. That sucked. We headed to the mall to get some grub (as we weren't having luck deciding on one place to go) but everything was closing up. We went back to utilize the hot tub and would order pizza later.
The hot tub was quite nice and had many humorous conversations, as per usual. We also took advantage of the sauna, but while doing so another group came and took over the hot tub. This wouldn't have been so bad, but my Queens of the Stone Age CD was playing and the group consisted of a few kids around the age of 10 or 11. The controls for the CD player were on the opposite side of the building (near the TV), so we were pretty much stuck. We all got out, probably startled the hot tub goers, and got showered/changed. We went back to Eric's after cleaning up and played some cards. Jon had the brillant idea of playing In-Between that lead to much swearing and loss of money on all of our behalfs. We haven't played it in a long time and it took a good 45 minutes before it ended. I'll have to remember to incorporate it into future poker days. Went home, reset the clocks and went to bed.
Sunday was a slow day. I had a really good lunch in that I sat with the television off reading the latest issue of the Sun and tasting every spoonful of my soup and every section of my orange. It was a welcome change. Marie got home from the bachelorette party around 2:00 and we had about an hour to catch up before heading off to look at houses with my aunt. Of the four we saw, we didn't really like any of them. One was on the corner of a busy street and had that 1940s look to it. One wasn't very well kept up and the people were home and unexpectant of the showing, so it was full of people. One had a dining room too small for our new dining room table and reeked of cigarette smoke, despite air filters running in every room (this one did have an awesome basement with wall-to-wall bookcases, but that's about it in terms of cool features) and the last one was so filled with stuff it was hard to visualize it empty. These people were home and watching television and had no interest in having their place in 'showing condition'. My aunt thought they were probably going to be evicted as they obviously weren't in a hurry to sell. Despite the disappointment, it was a good learning experience as for what to look for and what's available.
Today at work is Propagandhi, Pulley, Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine and Randy. A nice mix, really.
I had a dream last night about my brother. He was with his previous girlfriend and we (my parents, my aunt and uncle and the two of them) were all at my parent's old house in the living room. I was furious with him for not being a better brother and not treating me or Marie with respect. I was very upfront about my feelings and he tried to turn it around on me. The whole time he had a smile on his face and my parents ended up taking his side. It was horrible. Then, in a later dream (I think after I woke up to go to the bathroom), I referred to the other dream as being real.
I'm trying to be just tired instead of tired and cranky.
I need to decide what to do with my website. For serious.
I'll be making egg salad tonight and going to bed around 7:30.
