30 mph grandma
Feb. 25th, 2003 04:15 pmLast night was our volunteer orientation at the Humane Society. With the sessions starting at 6:00, I met Marie there at 5 to 6:00. The last volunteers didn’t show up until 6:25. I was significantly irked by this and somewhat offended. Just because you aren’t getting paid to do something doesn’t mean you show up when you feel like it. Luckily, when they split the group into ‘dog’ people and ‘cat’ people, the late ones were all ‘cat’ people. Basically we got a tour of the facility and the different expectations of the volunteers. I got really sad when we went in by the dogs because they were all so excited to see us and I found three that I wanted to take home instantly. I should have worn my big coat. But I resisted and simply let them lick my hand. Marie and I got back for our first ‘training’ with a long-time volunteer/staff member towards the end of March and will set our schedule after that. The highlight of the evening was when the Most Beautiful Mullet in the World walked in with his wife. The ‘yup’ part was shaved pretty short, while the ‘nope’ was fluffy and curly. I stood with mouth agape until my manners caught up with me. Luckily, they were cat people.
We got home and discussed our days before watching Futurama and the RR/RW Challenge. The show is a lot better now after a few weeks of utter crap. We hit the hay around 9:30. I wonder if part of my problem is that I’m getting too much sleep. I’m going to try and stay up a little later and see if that helps.
The Year of Brian is going ok, but not great. I’m realizing it’s very hard to start up new habits. I have been using my day planner more often and found that keeping a little notebook in my workbag is essential to my remembering things. I need to get my act together with the Interview Project and start setting up some dates to get it done. Marie made up a calendar for me before I got my planner to remind me of things. I need to integrate the two.
I also hope to make these entries less mundane. Granted, I enjoy having record of my daily transpirings, but it might be on the boring side for you, dear reader. So, I hope to kick out some truth on a variety of issues and honestly do what I said I’d do by weighing in with some writings on topics chosen by The Sun. Hopefully, it’ll be like my rants and raves on my dumb website, but more funner. Yes. More. Funner.
I miss
so_gracefully already. I hope she comes back.
I forgot to mention. I was watching some stand-up comedy last Friday and saw a clip of Lewis Black from roughly 10 years ago. I didn’t recognize him because of his hugegantic afro that obstructed nearly everything else on stage. Once he started screaming, I made the connection. It wasa little eerie.
