After starting my new job and being trained in Milwaukee, I learned that a new co-worker and I have a mutual friend. Luke and I were friends, if not best friends, in junior high. He came up in conversation and said co-worker said she would mention me to him the next time she dropped him a line. I came into work the next day with a page long email from him , recanting memories from ten years ago (ten fucking years ago) that had comfortably settled into the back of my mind. I countered with memories of my own and it’s like I’m 14 all over again.

He is now in Florida and working on finishing up his bachelor’s degree and onto his Master’s after a few years of snowboarding and drug use. It’s sad to me that two of my very good friends ended up turning heavily to drugs after our friendships wound down. Was I the protector of these guys or merely the catalyst to start smoking pot?

His parents still live in Appleton and we’ve made plans to get together for lunch the next time he’s in town. I really hope we do get back together, if not to just catch up and see where Life has taken us each.

Tonight is Henry Rollins, and I’m beyond ready. Last night at Terry’s I found out that Brian won’t be joining us; he has to work. I’m disappointed because it seems like when we make plans involving groups of people; he initially is up for them but later recants.

Last night I narrowly avoided the first double-skunk in the history of my cribbage career. Final score – Terry 121, Brian 61. I would have never been able to live that down.

I found a café nearby that Marie and I could meet at for lunch, since we now work 4 blocks from each other. This, incidentally, rules.

I had a day of training yesterday with someone from Milwaukee coming up here to show me the ropes. So far, so good. My boss from Milwaukee is coming up tomorrow, so I’m on Good Behavior alert.

I’ve decided to eat my lunch in my office and catch-up on internet-related duties then. I can eat in about 20 minutes, and have 40 glorious minutes to email, browse and update. I hope that’s not being too anti-social, but eating lunch in the kitchen with CNN on will send me to an early grave.

The Audioslave is my new favorite CD.
