Ok, let's go.

Thursday was Thanksgiving, as you may or may not have been aware. Marie and I tried out a new dish, a broccoli/rice combo with cheese sauce. It turned out awesome and only needed the microwave to do the cooking. We arrived at my aunt and uncle's around 2:00 and visited with my cousins for a while. Jenny latched onto me for most of the night, which was kinda cool. I'm glad that we have such a close relationship and I'm glad that we see them on their birthdays as well. Anyway, we visited and watched the game and had a huge meal around 5:30. There were about 20-25 people in attendance and this year all of the grandkids sat with my grandparents, with the aunts at another table and the uncles at yet another. It was a nice time overall. I realize I spend too much time talking to the same small group of relatives and not enough time talking with those I'm not totally comfortable with. Maybe Christmas will be a better time for me. Something to work on, for sure.

Friday was a pretty quiet day, getting packed for the wedding and making sure we had our stuff ready. We got to WB for the rehearsal around 3:30 and helped with some church decorating before starting the rehearsal. The pastor was very nice and "hip", which was refreshing to see. I was paired up with [livejournal.com profile] mcfumunda's fiancée Jenny (she being the maid of honor and I being the best man), which was fun. The wedding party was all about laughs and dirty joke references. At least the smiles in the photographs are all authentic. Also got to meet Brian's girlfriend Amanda, who seemed really nice and friendly. I wish I had a chance to talk with her more, but I was busy making sure the rings were staying put on the pillow.

After the rehearsal, we went to Kristie's mom's for the dinner (feast) and then off to bowling. We all let loose and took great liberties with our bowling names. The place was very "high tech" and we could do lots of editing/tomfoolery during the game. My namesake progressed from Refill to Mungro to Werewolf Balls to Spread Eagle and so forth. Meat Wallet and Ron Jeremy also joined us, which was fun. I bowled with mediocrity but we still had fun. We then went over by the bar for some karaoke. [livejournal.com profile] mcfumunda treated us to Spinning Wheel and he joined Jeremy for a rousing rendition of This Land is Your Land. Touching, really.

We headed back to Jeremy and Kristie's and pretty much hit the sack. I was grateful to have the free place to stay but couldn't sleep for the life of me. I was re-writing my speech and thinking about the wedding all night. I'm thankful for the bed we have at home, because I think it's the best bed every made, but it makes it hard to sleep elsewhere. Awoke (that is to say, got out of bed) around 8:00 and had some breakfast (huge gooey donut) while watching Weird Science. We went to the hall and decorated for about 45 minutes and then back to Jeremy's. We decided to run and get some lunch, so Marie, Eric and I went to Subway while the rest went to McDonald's. The girl behind the counter was friends with Kristie's sister and told us to have a good time. I said "Small world" and she corrected me: "Small town". We got back and ate, got ready and made it to the church by about 12:45. A few hours of pictures later and it was time for the ceremony to start. Kristie was crying beforehand and it was a little tense, but we all made it just fine. I didn't drop the rings and made it through without crying, which wasn't easy. Both Jeremy and Kristie were taking turns weeping. Jenny and I signed the papers to make it official and we headed over to the hall for the reception.

Got to chat with my parents a bit and also friends while we waited for our duties. We got seated at the head table and Jeremy made a few announcements and we got in line for the food. It was an Italian buffet and the best wedding food I've ever had: Veggie lasagna, vegetables, garlic bread, salad, etc. They also had chicken parmesian, lasagna with meat sauce and a variety of salads. After all the guests went through the line, it was my turn to give the speech. To borrow a Brian B.ism, "I was sweating like a hooker in church". Luckily, everyone laughed at the right places and I got a nice round of applause and lots of compliments when it was all done. Jenny gave her speech afterwards and did a wonderful job. We went back for the cake cutting after dinner and then proceeded to dance the night away.

A bit about my dancing skills: I don't have any. I enjoy dancing, but know my limitations. I usually just keep moving and when I'm lucky, it correlates with the beat of the music. I decided to take a chance and when 'Footloose' came on, I indeed "cut footloose". I looked like a cross between a epileptic seizure and an baboon's mating dance. My wild gyrations were only 50% my own invention; science also came into play. The lack of friction between the dance floor and the bottom of my shoes led to moves I couldn't have come up with in my wildest dreams. It's a miracle I stayed on my feet the whole time and it's still yet to be determined if I will be able to have kids.

We kept the party rocking until about 11:30 and then it was time to turn in. We said our goodbyes and headed to our hotel. Turned out to be $20 cheaper than I was told when I made the reservation, which was a nice surprise. We slept until about 8:30. Marie got showered and headed to the lobby for the Continental Breakfast, which consisted of cereal and toast. We called Jeremy and Kristie after we got ready and plans to watch the game at the VFW were cancelled, but we were going to watch the game at her mom's house instead and feast on the leftovers. We headed to Jeremy and Kristie's and collected our leftover belongings (shoes, etc) and decided to just head home. It was a long weekend and we were pretty tired. I listened to the Bears whomp on the Packers on the way home and then watched them get killed upon arriving home. By this point, my neck, knee and back were all quite sore due to the dance floor fiasco, so I had an ice pack by my side for the duration of the evening. Before waking up this morning to little knee pain, I thought I had strained a ligament. I'm a dangerous man.

So here we are looking a full week of work in the face and trying not to flinch first. The week after time off is always long and dreadful. Somehow, I've managed to make it to noon with little difficulty. My feet hurt from the rented shoes and I'm tired as hell, but in a good mood. I didn't even scream when a co-worker told me about how much fun she had shopping on Friday. Behavior like this should be rewarded.

Despite being wonkily laid-out, http://www.globalideasbank.org is an invigorating site to browse.

Tonight is groceries, calling my brother to see what his Christmas list will consist of and some quality time with Marie. Hell yes.
