Last night, Marie and I headed to Appleton for the Packer game at Terry’s place. We hit up the Chinese Buffet for dinner beforehand and then on to a night of football and Terry and I insulting each other. It was great. I lost my fantasy football game by 2 points, despite a strong effort from Ahman Green. That smarts. I’m 5-4 and lead the league in scoring, so I can’t stay bummed for long.
It was a late night (after 11) by the time we got home and I couldn’t sleep. I’m pretty awake now, considering, but I’ll probably take a nose dive in mid-afternoon. Hope I’m not so sleepy that I vote Republican after work.
Lately I’ve been thinking about Terry and the inevitability that he and Danielle will be moving away after they get married in June for her grad school program. And while I hope that they will return to Wisconsin to settle and have a family, I lean more and more towards them relocating far away for their career ambitions and we won’t see them very often. I had a very hard time with Jeremy moving away and think it will be even harder with Terry - partially because of the distance and partially because how much closer we’ve gotten over these past few years. Luckily, he is good with staying in touch and our at least weekly get togethers makes for some nice memories to boot.
I’ve noticed a tendency in myself to focus on the fact that good times will be over soon. Halfway through a movie it hits me that I’ve got things to do and the weekend is nearly over. Poker days are huge for me, but sometime during the night I start to get depressed that it’ll be over soon. I have a hard time enjoying things in the moment and instead focus on how little “fun” time I have left pertaining to a certain event/outing. And I hate it; I should be able to fully submerge myself in the moment and get as much out of it as I can. I’ll have to try again on Saturday and hope for the best.
Someday, when I’m home and have access to a cable modem and a non-wandering supervisor (the one that rhymes with bitch), I’ll reorganize all these surveys I’ve taken into one big entry or catalog them in my Memories section, just for my own sake of sanity. In the meantime, go vote. Seriously, go vote. Go right now if you have to, but go vote. I'll even give you a ride.
1. Were you raised in a particular religious faith?
I was raised Roman Catholic. My parents are religious, but not really strict. I think they have a good balance.
2. Do you still practice that faith? Why or why not?
I’ve been drawn to the Methodist faith and also draw from Buddhism, because I think it connects us to the universe/our surroundings better than Christianity.
3. What do you think happens after death?
About a million and one things. I’d like to think we still get to participate in life, on some level, if it’s watching over people we love or smitting people who are jerkwards or something. I’ve really got my hopes up that we spend a good 100 years learning before anything else. Like what would have happened if I had taken Job B over Job A or married someone else. Like Choose Your Own Adventure, but more interesting.
4. What is your favorite religious ritual (participating in or just observing)?
I would say weddings are my favorite. Each one is different and there is almost always cake!
5. Do you believe people are basically good?
I used to, but I’ve begun to feel that people are less and less born a certain way and they more make decisions (or have decisions made for them) to influence their outlook. I think there is something to be said for how little of the population the US represents compared to resources consumed or violent tendencies. I reserve the right to contradict myself.
