Ur My Best Friend!!
Sep. 16th, 2002 11:45 amThe weekend was a bit of a whirlwind. Friday Marie and I played some Simpsons Trivia, which I did okay at. I was answering the level 4 out of 5 questions. Marie stuck with level two and I think it was pretty even. I’m glad all that useless knowledge is good for something. Saturday Marie and I went to meet our new Little Brother, Eric. We met the casework supervisor at his mom’s apartment and met him, her and his younger sister. Seems like a really nice kid and I think this is going to work out well. We chatted for a bit and then went off to a meeting with the Mayor for Big Brothers Big Sisters Month. We had a mock City Council meeting and then a pizza lunch. Afterwards, we headed over to Menominee Park and spread wood chips throughout the playground. Shoveling, raking, hauling, wheel barrowing (?) and so forth. Got a little stanky, but the rain helped. Felt really good to move around and accomplish things with my hands. Maybe a career as a masseuse would be a logical next step? Nah, probably not.
Marie and I headed home around 2:30 and got showered and changed in anticipation of Jeremy and Kristie’s visit. We had a nice talk with them and went out to dinner afterwards. I didn’t realize how long it had been since I’ve seen them both, but far too long. Hashed out the bachelor party plans (it will be outstanding) and generally got caught up with things.
Sunday was supposed to be trip to my parent’s house for a cook-out, but we got a call from my mom around 9:00 that my dad wasn’t feeling well. She still asked us to come so we could take some food back with us. We went to church and then stopped and loaded up on veggie burgers, taco dip, jello salad, potato salad (thank you, lord), and cake. We returned to Oshkosh and dug in over the Packer game. More on football later. Spent the day reading and futzing with the computer. Got a call from my brother around 7:30 that my dad was in the hospital with a kidney infection, but nothing to worry about. He returned home last night and is on antibiotics (I think) and drinking a lot of fluids. It made my stomach drop when I first heard the news, as my dad is never, ever, ever sick. In his 30+ years at his job, I think he’s taken 3 sick days all together. I spoke with my mom this morning and it is more serious than they first thought and he’s going to need to see the urologist on Thursday after taking a week of medicine. I’m a little scared but am trying not to worry too much.
Got to work this morning and straightened out the insurance situation for the most part. Still need to watch our bills and make sure that nothing comes back with Marie not being covered, but it should be all taken care of. Suffice it to say, the supervisor lady was much more pleasant than my initial contact.
The Packers will be lucky to be 10-6 this year. They looked so pitiful against the Saints and their World Class Defense is a joke that I don’t find very amusing. I think this next game will be make or break for GB and if they don’t outscore and outclass the Lions by at least 20 points, all will be lost. On a good note, I do have Deuce McAllister on my fantasy team and him coupled with the Tampa Bay Defense (who scored a boner-generating 25 points), I smothered Terry by a good 20 points. I’m now 2-0 and sit atop the league by myself.
This week should be a busy one. I think we’re taking Eric bowling on Thursday for our first official outing and Terry will hopefully be arriving for more cribbage on Wednesday. Would like to get Brian’s interview done, perhaps on Tuesday night. I also hope to make it over to the bike shop sometime soon to find out about getting some wheels. I figure getting it in the Fall will result in a cheaper price tag and I got some really, really good information from a member of
thequestionclub about what to look for, brand names, etc. I’d like to keep it under $300 (hell, I’d like to keep it under $50, but you know how it goes).
Also, found out my geriatric-mobile is due to a severed hose to the power steering. $190 later, I’ll be good as new. Considering I got the car free and clear and have only put in about $750 in maintenance over the past 4 years I’ll just keep my big mouth shut.
Current annoyances:
People who don’t say thank you
Family politics
People who post identical entries multiple times in the same community
Allergies

(I'll be able to comment on how you helped me in your next post, then, too.)
