Friday
Friday night Marie and I pretty much had a quiet night. We knew we had to get up early for graduation, so we pretty much stuck to some cleaning and television. No big whoop.

Saturday
Saturday was graduation for my friend Joy and my sister-in-law. So we headed to the uncomfortable bleacher seats around 8:30 and sat in pain for 3 hours. The ceremony was nice but a little heavy on the pomp. It had a homoerotic scene with the ROTC and plenty of hollering from parents and friends. The weirdest part was the fact that both my sister in law and my brother’s ex-fiancee were graduating. Luckily, no there wasn’t a scene and everyone made it through just fine.

After the ceremony, I called Julie and made plans to pick her up at 4:30 for Joy’s party in Bonduel (about an hour drive from Oshkosh). Marie and I booked it home, wolfed down some lunch and then headed to the theater for “Vanilla Sky”. What a weird, weird movie. It was enjoyable but much differently than the trailer/commercials portrayed it. The best part was that a) Jason Lee was in it and b) his character’s name was Brian. It’s little things like this that make me smile.

After the movie we made a quick stop at my parent’s house to drop off the gifts for my mom’s side (we exchange names, but this year we’ll be at Marie’s mom’s side, so my parent’s will take the exchange gifts that we bought for my mom’s side) and then off to pick up Julie. Julie and a mutual friend Carrie were waiting for us, so we hit the road to Bonduel.

We talked on the way there, a little bit about Julie’s situation with her ex-boyfriend and how hard it is to find a ‘good man’. Well, I mostly listened to the conversation. It’s sad because Julie is such a wonderful and caring person, yet she seems to get involved with guys who don’t appreciate her and take advantage of her.

We got to Bonduel around 5:30 and made our way inside ‘The Bar’ where her party was. Talked with Joy for a while and got something to eat. We started a ‘darts’ tournament with Joy’s dad and sister, which was fun. Marie and I lost both times, but for two people who don’t play darts at all, I think we held our own pretty well. I was a little uncomfortable with the smoky atmosphere but I dealt with it. We left around 7:30 and dropped them off at their car. Marie and I headed home and pretty much called it a night.

Sunday
Sunday was a lot of laundry and cleaning before heading over to the guys’ for football/video games. Eric and Noah were over when I got there and Terry showed up shortly before the Packers’ kickoff. Depressing game but I was expecting a letdown. I think the Packers can win out but they’ll need help if they want a home game in the playoffs. But hey, the Vikings lost to the Lions, so I really don’t have a lot to complain about.
Marie came over around 6:00 or so, which was nice. We had a good discussion about how she tends to miss me when I’m gone but how she doesn’t want to keep me from seeing my friends either. It’s all about compromise, people.

Got home, had some cereal and watched more tv. Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle and Home Movies. Despite all the TV, I was able to fall asleep right away, which was a welcome change.

Today is pretty quiet, which is nice. I have a feeling the rest of this and next week will be slow and quiet at work, a lot of people have vacation to burn off. This is a good thing.

In producing a ‘requisition’ at work (i.e., tell our account payable department to pay a bill) I found the following ‘vendor’ in our database: Madison erection company. I have no idea what this company does or why it chose the name it did, but it made my snicker this morning.

Marie is picking my up at 12:30 to go ‘check out’ the site of our Holiday Party so we can see what we need for decorations. We might be bringing our tree, but we’re not sure. In my mind, it would be a pretty big hassle to take down our tree, re-set it up over there and then re-take it down and re-re-set it up back at our place. I think we’ll be able to spread tinsel and lights and it’ll be fine, but don’t want it to be too ‘sterile’ of a place to party.

I’ve got about a million personal things to do, so that’s all for now.
