After a great weekend, it’s hard to get revved up for another week of ‘work’. Here goes:
Friday
After some hastily made plans, my parents came to our apartment for dinner on Friday evening. The ever-famous ravioli casserole with a fresh green salad and mixed vegetables made for a nice meal. After that, we headed to the theaters to see Life As A House, our treat. It was a really good movie that I thought was well done and engaging. Admittedly, I missed part of the beginning because there was a man sitting in front of and just to the right of Marie who’s popcorn-masticating style annoyed me and had me giggling at the same time. He and his wife/girlfriend/female friend were sharing a tub of popcorn, a tub that she had possession of. He would reach over and fill up his huge hand and proceed to stuff the entire amount into his mouth within a period of 0.25 – 0.35 seconds. Repeat about 10 times and see if you can concentrate on the opening credits and dialogue. Not very easy.
After the movie, my parents dropped Marie and I off back home and we pretty much called it a night.
Saturday
Saturday Marie and I sought out to take care of some errands in the morning. We both had to get our oil changed in each of our cars, so we got that taken care of early. Afterwards I stopped by Radio Shack to drop off some of our expired batteries to be recycled, stopped by the grocery store to drop off a large amount of plastic bags, also to be recycled, and picked up some fresh flowers for Marie. Meanwhile, Marie was heading over to Target to get some domestic supplies (garbage bags, aluminum foil, etc).
We came back for lunch and watched Point of No Return, which Marie had rented. I thought it was rather violent and corny, but it had its moments. We soon drifted off to a lovely, peaceful 2-hour nap. I never, ever nap because it usually makes me feel so groggy and disoriented when I wake up (I’ve got sleep issues), but this time it was just necessary. So nice to be comfortable in bed, holding the one you love with a gentle fan breeze keeping the temperature outside the covers just right and not having a care in the world.
After we woke up, we did some stuff around the apartment (I sorted through some papers, checked my email, and cleaned up the kitchen a bit) before heading over to Eric’s for dinner and a movie. Eric and his girlfriend Lori made us salad, cheesy mashed potatoes (which were fantastic) and an Alfredo chicken dish with pasta. It was quite good and nice to have a sit-down meal with friends. After that we watched Almost Famous on DVD, which I really enjoyed. If Jason Lee lived closer to me, he’d have one more stalker to deal with. The weirdest part of the evening was that the movie was set to run without sound. The opening sequence on the DVD was fine, but the beginning of the movie had no sound to it. Took Eric a while to figure out that it was set incorrectly (somehow) and finally got the volume turned on. Brian was watching it last, according to Eric, so perhaps something got set incorrectly. Anyway, quite a god movie. Watched a little SNL (mostly for the news) and then headed home.
Sunday
Sunday is always football day in my mind, which always means a trip over to the guys’ apartment. Woke up, got ready, watched some TV and got a pretty good workout on the Gazelle. Headed over to the guys’ around 11:30 or so. Terry and Brian were gone for the weekend, so it was myself, Eric, Lori and Eric’s parents. It’s weird to watch a football game and not be swearing at the TV (ok, it’s weird for me anyway), but I survived. Went through the Sunday flyers and rated all the bras, as is my MO for the Sunday paper.
Got back home around 4:30 and spent the rest of the night flipping through the games, cursing stupid FOX for not showing Futurama and somehow sticking with King of the Hill, which could very well be the worst animated shows on television. All I’m saying is pay some respect to Matt Groening and all that he’s done for your sleazy network. Ok ok, enough ranting for now.
Worked on some updates for the website and finished up To Kill A Mockingbird before drifting off to sleep. It was one of those weekends that didn’t have all that rigid of an agenda and it felt really good to just be able to do whatever.
And of course, that brings us to right now. Had a fairly productive morning in screening and setting up some telephone interviews for two open positions that we have right now. No word from Job Prospect #1 as of yet, but I should hear by Wednesday about a telephone interview for myself.
Tonight I’ll be making my way over to the guys’ again to play a game of Madden (good lord, my Seahawks suck) and some cribbage against Terry. I’ve got to win our tourney and have been practicing up a bit.
Random thoughts before lunch:
I’m glad that I get more great leftovers today. My mom made vegetarian lasagna and brought over the leftovers for Marie and I on Friday night, so I get to tackle that for lunch. I’m realizing how much of my day revolves around what I’m eating at lunchtime. Anyway, I’d like to get the recipe from her, because it is very tasty. So much easier to avoid meat when there are new recipes to try and variety to keep you going.
The Christmas Party is on. December 22nd and ready to rock. I can’t wait, I really like hosting parties.
I also worked on my X-mas list on Sunday after looking through the flyers and have some ideas of what I want. I’m further along this year than I was last year, so that’s good. And Marie and I have a lot of our shopping done already.
