I had a truly great weekend and I think it helped me break out of the funk that I was in. Hopefully, I’ll stay smiling for a while.

Friday night Marie and I had to go out to eat. We’ve been going out to eat a lot lately (well, a lot for us anyway, usually only once a week) but there are so many good places to go and eat. We went to Field’s, a sit down place that serves breakfast all the time, which is Marie’s favorite meal to go out for. I ordered chicken fingers with fries and honey mustard and was in taste bud heaven. In retrospect, I ate a lot of meat this weekend, but it tasted pretty good. Not an excuse, but considering how little meat I eat, I think it just seemed like a lot in comparison. Anyway, Marie got pancakes and hash browns, which were also very good.

After that, we had to hit up the grocery store and got some good chow. I got this 5-pound bag of baby carrots (which I eat everyday for lunch) for a really good deal, so I felt like a good consumer. We also decided to stop by the video store on the way home to get some movies. I had heard great things about “Three Kings” from Michael Moore and it appealed to me anyway, so we got that and also “The Bare Wench Project”, you know, because it looked pretty funny.

We got home and popped in “The Bare Wench Project” and I found out that bad porno makes me sick to my stomach. Basically, it was four women with gross implants and no acting ability flaunting their naked breasts in the woods in search of the “Bare Wench”. Eh, live and learn, right?

Saturday we did some shopping at Target and I got a new toothbrush and aftershave lotion, among some other items. We returned home for some lunch and then watched Three Kings. Wow, what an amazing movie. The movie is set during the Gulf War and about some soldiers who set out to steal from Sadaam once the war is over. A very, very good movie and surprisingly non-pro US for a war movie. Well worth checking out if you haven’t seen it already.

After that, I played some more Fallout (and killed all of the Raiders, I’m not sure if in the grand scheme of things that was the right thing to do, but I’ve selective about how I save my games, so I should be ok if it turns out to go against me) and tried to set-up the third scanner I bought from Best Buy in the last 3 months.

Suffice it to say without going into a lot of detail:

Fuck Best Buy

Fuck Best Buy

Fuck Best Buy

Fuck Best Buy

Fuck Best Buy

I’ll be returning the non-functioning scanner for a full cash refund and uphold my vow to never shop there again. In review: Fuck Best Buy.

We headed over to the guy’s place around 5:00 for dinner. It was Brian’s birthday on Friday and we were having a big get together and all making supper together. The guest list included myself and Marie, Terry and Danielle, Eric and Lori, Brian and Steve. We had a noodle casserole with cheese and beef and sauce, grilled BBQ chicken, cream cheese bars, salad and carrot cake. Oh, and brownies. In retrospect, we ate a lot of sweets, but it was all so good.

Danielle and Steve talked a lot about their teaching experiences (Danielle teaches in Two Rivers and Steve student-taught for a while in Stevens Point) and how tragic our school system is. They are both really great people and teachers I wish I had when I was younger, so it makes me feel good that there are caring and highly qualified teachers out there to partially nullify the ones that are simply there to pass students on to the next grade.

After dinner we went for a really long walk around campus and by the river. It was such a beautiful night and perfect for conversation. We got back and watched the season premiere for Saturday Night Live with icky Reese Witherspoon. It was pretty funny and I’m so glad to see Jimmy and Tina still doing the news. We went home around 11 or so.

Sunday I tried to get the scanner working again but to no avail, so I uninstalled all the software and threw in the towel. Spent the rest of the morning watching the pre game shows for the NFL and watched the first half of the Packer game and how terrible they looked. At halftime, we hopped in the car and drove to Fond du Lac to watch the second half with my aunt and uncle (Gail and Gary) and their three daughters (Katie, Sara and Jenny). We listened to about half of the 3rd quarter in the car and of course, then they started kicking ass. We almost didn’t want to get out of the car for fear of them doing poorly again, but we bit our lips and went inside all the same.

It was so great to see Gail and Gary and the girls and next to my parents, they are the people I want to emulate most when I become a parent. Marie and I just have a strong connection with them and we feel really close to them as well. We watched the 2nd half of the game, took their HUGE Bermise (I’m not sure if that’s the right kind) dog for a walk and had a great supper of cheese potatoes, veggies and dip and roast beef and cheese sandwiches. Warm apple pie for dinner, my stomach has never been in this much heaven. Honestly, it was the best apple pie I’d ever had. Simply perfect. We left around 7 or so to head back to Oshkosh.

When we got home, I called the guys and headed over to play weeks 11 and 12 for the Seahawks. I barely won both games and have to face Brian next week. Both of our first head-to-head games and since he is undefeated, I’m a little worried. We are 1-1 against each other since we started playing Madden, he beat me once in regular season and I beat him once in the Superbowl. A good match up and I’m anxious for it too.

More stuff later, I’d best get to work.
