Interview from [livejournal.com profile] chuckdarwin

1. Are you still planning to have kids?
Yes, the plan still is on. Marie and I want to have one, but I have a feeling that might change. I'm scared of being a bad parent, but realize worrying about it is probably a small sign that I'll be okay at it.

2. What is Wisconsin like? I have been interested in it, due to the fact that it enjoys a reputation for being somewhat liberal.
Wisconsin is nice - I've lived here all my life. I've been to both coasts and while Seattle was nice, Wisconsin is a great place to live. Although, on these -30 degree days, I wonder...

As for the liberalism, I think it's a pretty open-minded place. I listen to WPR on a regular basis and feel that the callers are pretty evenly divided.

3. Do you have a favorite candidate for the nomination?
Kucinich is my choice for president, as I think he has the best platform. Electability is a poor reason to vote for someone. I'll need to do more research on Kerry, Dean and Clark, as I think one of them will end up getting the nod.

4. I didn't know you were straight-edge. Was it difficult to resist the temptation to drink in college?
College wasn't that difficult for me - I roomed with my best friend at the time and also had two or three other friends from high school that also attended. Marie did a lot to pull me out of my shell, as my most frequent activity on the weekend was computer-related.

5. Have you written songs before? Do you still play music at all?
I've never written anything musically. I played the trombone in school and recently played drums with a friend (he taught me a few things, but we didn't stick with it long enough to make real progress). It was fun while it lasted, we mostly drummed along to Tom Petty or Billy Joel. Nothing too complex (well, except for Don't Come Around Here No More).

Do you plan on backing whoever the nominee is? I've been asking a lot of people that are Greens.

Nader has a thing on his site asking if he should enter the race. I know a lot of Greens that have asked him not to because of what happened in 2000. I personally think he should stay out of presidential runs because he can't win and because by running, he ultimately puts somebody totally opposite of the party's views in office.

I like Al Sharpton and Kucinich a lot. I know neither of them couuld ever win in mainstream America though. I do believe that one day we can be that far to the left, but it's going to take small changes first. To get there, we have to get idiot fucker out of Washington. /rant.

Dave and I talk about planning for one kid - with the option of a third. It sounds so very much like we're taking out a loan. :)

So long as it's not Lieberman, probably. I'm glad that Kucinich did run as a Democrat as he basically has Nader's role for 2004. And while he's not going to win, he's likely pushing the party to be more left as a whole.

I don't regret voting for Nader in 2000 but can see that it may hurt the cause in the long run. Then again, there's a school of thought to let things get really, really bad to show how necessary change is. This is why we need IRV for the presidential election!

I've also lived in the 'Sconi all of my life, and I don't think it's all that liberal, historically or currently (even though we are a state that has elected the great Russ Feingold, we also elected JOE McCARTHY!).

...I always thought that the Fox River Valley was the most conservative part of the state... it's interesting that you think it isn't... I guess I was wrong! :-)

...Kucinich is the man.
