It was very nice to see Carrie, Andrea and Tim this weekend. It's hard to believe their wedding (minus Carrie) is coming up so quickly. They've been through a lot of resistance and I hope that they will experience some semblence of freedom/closure on their special day.

My first Humane Society volunteering stint was a good one. I arrived and had one of the more experienced volunteers take me around and we each took a dog for a walk together. I'm realizing that I do not know breeds of dogs other than the obvious ones. Abby was the first dog I took out and she pulled constantly on her leash during the first half of the walk. The other volunteer was very friendly and glad that I was there helping out. She has two dogs of her own and comes to volunteer every Saturday. I'm hoping for a closer feeling of community by volunteering.

Sunday was a trip to Appleton to check out a few neighborhoods of houses that our realtor (who happens to be my aunt) sent to us. My parents seem to have reservations about using a family member, which I can understand. I do know that Gail will be looking out for our best interests and am not very worried about it. Anyway, we didn't find a whole lot that we liked, but there were a few nice ones we might look into further. Hard to judge based on just seeing the outside, but there were a number that had one-car garages that we eliminated right away. Luckily, there are lots and lots of houses for sale, so we can (and will) be picky.

Marie and I will be visiting some lenders this week and next to see how much house we can afford and hopefully this will serve as a first step in the process. I'm nervous about the whole thing, just because it's new and a pretty big committment. I know it'll all work out and we'll find a great place to live; it'll just take a lot of work to get there.

I've been feeling a little down lately. Maybe I just need some more sleep. I didn't sleep very well when Marie was gone on Thursday and Friday, so hopefully I'll get back to a normal schedule now.

I'm glad that you enjoyed your volunteering experience. I wanted to volunteer at my local animal shelter. Two things stopped me: (1) I'm allergic to everything except a few species of mold; (2) Being at my local animal shelter was just heartbreaking. I still remember all the oof-woofs with their heads disconsolately on their paws. I'd kneel down and call, but they'd just glance up then away as if, "You're not home."

Yeah, it's hard to leave without a car full of animals, but I figure it's a way to bring them some happiness. My cat allergies keep me just with the dogs. With all of the walking, I'll hopefully get some physical benefits too... :)
