My intentions are good and earnest and true
Nothing like coming to work and finding a letter stating that “based on the Working Spouse Verification form…we have determined that Marie is not eligible to remain covered under your group health plan. Therefore, Marie’s coverage will be terminated effective 8-15-01.”
I fucking hate fucking the fucking insurance fucking industry.
The sheer idea that a company can retroactively cancel her coverage over a year later enrages me to the core. I’m glad that the People In Charge are chasing false enemies and preparing for another war while millions of people have to put up with this horseshit everyday. I don’t usually get mad at Life, but this time I am fucking pissed.
Suffice it to say, I have not yet begun to fight and will get this resolved to my liking. I just found out that Marie is only eligible for coverage at her job if she does not have spousal coverage, which she does. Meaning the form that we sent in saying that “Yes”, Marie is eligible for coverage is wrong. I called the person at the insurance company and she hid behind the ‘I’m just doing what my supervisor told me” clause. Of course, said supervisor is out until Monday so I get to stew all weekend.
:deep breath:
Last night was rather quiet. Talked to both Carrie A and Carrie B and that’s about it. Marie had a meeting to attend to, so I was on my own for dinner. Had a delightful feast of veggie dogs on toasted buns with cheese and BBQ sauce. Yee-haw.
This weekend should be a fun one. Not much planned for tonight but a full day tomorrow. Going to meet our Little Brother and participate in a park clean-up project in the morning and most likely kicking it with Jeremy and Kristie for dinner. Will be nice to see those two and make sure my best man duties are in order. I realize I need to come up with a good speech and toast, good thing I have a few months. Sunday will be a cookout at my parent’s house and watching the Packers kick some Saints ass. I also hope to complete the scanning phase of the photo project and move on to the categorizing phase.
I also am proud to report I found a way to get a better night’s sleep. I read an article about how people who frequently wake up during the night (me!) have the habit of looking at the clock when they wake up (me again!). This causes the person to semi-“freak out”, rationalizing “Aw shit, I only have 2 hours of sleep left. I’d better get to sleep RIGHT AWAY” and causing the opposite effect. So, now when I wake up in the middle of the night, I just turn over and go to sleep without so much as a thought to what the alarm clock displays. I’ve tried it for the past two nights and I must say it’s worked out really well so far.
I’m also going to make a concentrated effort towards some sort of meditation, even if it’s only a few minutes a day. I will benefit from the quiet and the chance to work on my breathing. I sure could have used it today after getting the insurance letter.
I got a paper cut today, and the band aid I applied smells good. Like an air freshener, but not as phony.
