I ain’t gonna spread for no roses.
Had a pretty good day yesterday. Ended up taking a half day so I could do some shopping and surprise Marie by being home when she got home. I had roses delivered for Marie at work, so I had to wait until I heard from her that she got them (I was worried about it, for some reason) before I could leave. So I got a call from her that they had arrived (and of course, what a fabulous husband I was). Then it was off to shopping. While I can’t detail the trip too much, it was successful. Driving down the highway with my windows down on December 5th in Wisconsin was surreal, to say the least.
Got home around 1:30, had some lunch and watched the Kids in the Hall (which will be forever funny) and spent a good amount of time on-line. I’m updating my links page with a bunch of stuff that I visit on a regular basis that I would like other people to as well.
Marie got home around 3:30 and we headed off to dinner around 4:15. Since it was Marie’s birthday, we always go out to eat. So we set our coordinates for Cy’s Bistro and had the usual tastebud orgasm that we are so accustomed to. Heaven, they name is Sweet Malaysian Curry.
After that, we headed to Kohl’s to do a little shopping. I got a 2002 calendar, a travel kit (with nose/ear hair trimmer) and a soft gray sweatshirt.
My two observations at Kohl’s
1) The sweatshirt I ended up getting came in a variety of sizes. I usually fall into either the XLT (Extra-large tall) or XXL. I noticed that the XLT sweatshirt was $26 while the XXL was only $24. I’m annoyed that we live in a world where tall people are monetarily penalized while the overweight get to save $2 on sweatshirts. I ended up going with the XXL in this case because it fit better, but I still have a grudge against this grave injustice.
2) The men’s department contained about 25 women and myself. I didn’t see a single guy in the men’s department. This scares me a bit. I know it’s the holiday season and they were all probably gift shopping, but when I went to the women’s department to find Marie I encountered the same ration of 25 other women to my one.
After the Kohl’s adventure, we went to my parent’s to chat with them. Got some bad news but nothing that is in our control. More of a wait and see issue but not good all the same. Chatted with my parents for a bit and Marie got to open her presents. Marie collects teapots, so my parents got her one that came with a mug that sits almost as the teapot stand. Like nothing I’ve ever seen but very cool looking. Also got a book of words and drawings from an author that neither of us has heard, but that I plowed through last night. Interesting and thought-provoking.
We also got Marie’s artificial X-mas tree and ornaments to bring to our apartment. We stopped by the guys’ place to drop off some of the (carrot cake) cupcakes I made and was glad to see that Terry was home. Talked with him for a good half hour or so and just as we were about to leave, Brian came home as well. So we chatted for a bit and were on our way.
Got home and got a call from Carrie A. to RSVP to the party and wish Marie a happy birthday. Always good to hear from her. It was a tiring evening and it didn’t take much for me to drift off last night.
I had a safety training session this morning from 9 until noon, which was all right. Our presenter seemed to be trying too hard to make us all laugh instead of focusing on the materials, but for a three hour session it went rather quickly. I learned two things from the presenter (who works in New York). First, there is over one billion dollar in gold bullion in the basement of the WTC that they haven’t been able to uncover yet. Secondly, there was a lot of evidence (since the FBI and CIA had offices in the WTC) that is now destroyed due to the attacks, so apparently a bunch of criminals are going to eventually go free since their records and evidence is most likely destroyed.
I’ve got another meeting this afternoon so this is a hasty update, but it’ll have to do.
Toodles.
