“I got my pencil. Gimme somethin’ to write on.”

Well, what a weekend. Here goes:

Friday
After work, headed home and had a quick supper before heading out to Wausau. Weather was pretty crappy but made good time and arrived by 8:30. Chatted with Marie’s mom for a while and did some reading of one of my library books. It was a pretty quiet evening and we were tired from the travel.

Saturday
The original plan was for Marie’s grandparents to drive down from Eagle River to celebrate Marie’s birthday with her. They called in the morning and said that the roads were really bad (it’s about an hour or so drive) and wanted to try for Sunday instead. So, we had a bit of a change of plans. Marie and her mom went shopping and I stuck around to read more of my book and watch about 5 hours of the Game Show Network, which ruled. Press Your Luck kicks some serious ass.

After Marie and her mom got back, we had a later lunch (2:00) of Spinach Artichoke Lasagna (which was fantastic) and garlic bread with birthday cake for dessert. It was great. Was supposed to get a call from Liz around 4:00 to get together, but she ended up calling around 5:30 or so. The birthday party she was at went a little later than she thought.

We made plans to see Harry Potter or Monsters Inc., depending on the lines/availability. We picked her up around 6:15 and made our way to the theater. Got to see Harry Potter at 7:00. Marie and I have read all 4 books, but Liz hadn’t. I thought the movie was well done but the whole time (in the back of my head) I was pissed at Coke for their multi-million dollar deal. Is nothing scared? The movie was a little slow at times (it was 2.5 hours) but I think for the first movie of a ‘series’, it needs to lay the groundwork and not move too swiftly.

Afterwards, we went to Tony Roma’s for a late supper. Marie and I split a cup of soup and a chicken sandwich, while Liz had the same chicken sandwich. They messed up Liz’s order, all of our fries were cold and they forgot my honey mustard. Granted, anyone silly enough to go out for supper at 10:00 shouldn’t get the ‘best’ food, but I expected better than that. Since Liz paid for ‘concessions’ during the movie, I picked up the check. I only write this because I should keep a closer eye on the amount of good deeds I do, which will hopefully prompt me to increase them.

After that, we dropped Liz off at her house and went to bed ourselves.

Sunday
Woke up and got ready, Marie’s grandparents arrived around 10:30. Marie opened presents (she got a slew of stamping stuff from her mom, a few wall hangings, some cash from her grandparents and step-dad and thus far, a CD from yours truly. I can’t delve into what else she’s going to get since she’s been known to read my LJ (Hi honey!)) and then we had brunch. Quite tasty it was. We proceeded to watch the first half of the Bears/Lions game and then hit the road. Marie was nice enough to drive back, so I could put my feet up.

Marie bought me the latest “If…” book, which is questions for the soul. It’s the fourth in the series and I highly recommend them for anyone in a relationship. A verbal ton of open-ended questions to get to know each other better. It passed the time quite well and we had some good laughs.

Got back to Oshkosh around 3:30 and ‘unpacked’. I called my brother to get his and his wife’s X-mas lists and to give them ideas for Marie. Hopped back in the car and made my way over to the guys’ for the Madden 2004 draft (we’re on our third season). First, I stopped by the Disc Exchange. Of the 25+ CDs that Marie and I have decided to part with, they wanted none of them. But I did pick up Van Halen’s 1984 and Cake’s Prolonging the Magic. They were $6 each, so I think I did well. Almost got Nirvana’s In Utero, but decided to hold off. Never heard that album, but figured it would be worth the $7 asking price. Maybe next time.

Made my way over to the guys’ and we ordered a pizza (that Brian was kind enough to foot the bill for). Noah made it over around 6:15 and we started the draft. I got a DT in the first round and a FS in the second, hopefully both will pan out for me. I think everyone did pretty well. Eric won the latest SuperBowl with the Saints and has changed teams to the Steelers. I got Mike McKenzie and Jeff Garcia in free agency, so we’ll see how they pan out.

I played my first game (@ Philadelphia) and got my ass handed to me on a platter, 35-7. Garcia had a pinched nerve in his neck and had to go out, so I was back to Travis Brown, who lead the team to its only touchdown. Every time I blinked, the Eagles were balls deep in the end zone. Eric was upstairs for the first part of the game, but he came down and the first words out of his mouth were “I thought you were improving your team”. It really pissed me off for about a minute, but then I just let it go. See, I’ve got the upper hand since Eric has 2 cornerbacks on his roster (where as you need at least 4 to play a game). I’ve got the advantage since I’ve got 6 cornerbacks on my roster, 4 of them are rated pretty well. So he wants to trade with me and I think it will end up: Advantage – Coach Refill in the end. I’ll be heading over for the Packer game tonight, so perhaps he will propose a trade. Interesting, indeed. Also, when he was the Saints and I wanted to trade him for Deuce McAllister, he wanted quite a bit for him (even though I was willing to give him Shaun Alexander in return). So I’ll see what I can get from him and use it to my advantage, if possible. I’d like some help on the O-Line, but we’ll see what happens.

I got home around 10:00 and couldn’t fall asleep for the longest time. Too much visual stimulation strikes again.

This morning, Marie and I drove to the mechanic’s to drop off my car, to have my rear defrost fixed. So it was a late night last night and an early morning to boot. Luckily, it’s already 10:00 and the day is progressing by quickly.

I’m sure there will be more later.

I’m about to lose control, and I think I like it.
