Pain isn’t just defined by what you feel

What a whirlwind weekend. I think that it could be scientifically proven that the time between 5:00pm Friday and 10:00 pm Sunday is roughly equivalent to about 45 minutes.

Friday
After work I headed home and spent most of the night either talking with Marie or watching TV or cleaning up the apartment. Seems like we always have one weekend night devoted to doing nothing more than spending time together, which I thoroughly enjoy. Spent some time on-line and did some reading as well. My newest issue of Sun magazine came, and it is outstanding. www.thesunmagazine.org if you are interested. Anyone who has any interest in writing should seek this out. It’s one of those magazines I’d like to get gift subscriptions to all of my friends. It is simply that good. I was reading the inside front cover, about subscriptions and such. They have a lifetime subscription for $1,000 (their lifetime or your lifetime). I figured that I’d have to subscribe for 30 years to break even. Holy shit…in 30 years I’ll be 53. Maybe I’ll just stick to renewing for now, but what a cool idea.

Saturday
Saturday was my cousin’s wedding in Green Bay. Prior to that, Marie and I went to Appleton to get a piece of exercise equipment. We settled on the Tony Little Gazelle Freestyle. I’m sure you’ve seen the infomercial on it, it’s hawked by a guy who looks like he could be on a Behind the Music of an 80s hair band, and he’s annoying as piss, but anyone who can come up with exercise equipment that is enjoyable and actually works isn’t all bad in my book. Anyway, we got the ‘machine’ and loaded it into my car. We then headed to my parent’s house as we were riding with them to the wedding. We stopped to get some subs for lunch first, since the ceremony started at 1:30 and we weren’t planning on stopping for food.

Got to my parent’s house and had a quick lunch. I got changed into my new suit (just call me Rico) and we hit the road. Arrived at the church a little early, so we drove around for a short while. We stopped by the NEW (NorthEasternWisconsin) Zoo, which was just up the road. My grandmother (my dad’s mom) passed away in December of last year and my parents had a donation made to the NEW Zoo in her name, as she was a lover of animals. They have engraved bricks all around the zoo, so we planned on going back to the Zoo after the church ceremony to find it.

We arrived at the church (again) and went inside to take a seat. My cousin (Donnie) is my uncle’s son from a previous marriage, so despite seeing pictures of him, I’ve never met him. I always find it interesting to see how people dress in church, specifically for a wedding. There were two guys that stood out to me, one who looked like the lead singer of the Goo Goo Dolls and the other had 6 piercings in his face (possibly 7, I didn’t see his tongue). I had on my suit, and felt dressed appropriately, but I guess I’ve always felt more ‘mature’ than other people near my age, or even older than me.

Of course, after the ceremony we went to the Zoo (Marie, myself and my parents) and if you want to get some funny looks, go to the zoo wearing a suit. A few sidelong glances and some people staring, but what else did I expect? We found my grandmother’s brick and took a few pictures. Glad we brought the camera, I’m hoping that Marie will drop off the film on Monday so we can see how nice of a camera we got.

We went to the hotel and met up with my relatives from Fond du Lac and set out to ‘go exploring’ the hotel area. This consisted of riding up and down the escalator a few times (no, a bloodbath did NOT ensue) and sitting on hotel furniture, chatting with my 3 cousins. Such fun. We headed back to the reception room and found a place at the table. People eventually started filing in (we were supposed to eat at 6:00, and got served at about 6:30). Donnie is a DJ and had quite a loud presence on the microphone. They had the traditional “when you clink silverware against a glass, we pick a name and that couple has to show us how to kiss”. Unfortunately, people usually take the opportunity to be as lewd and gross as possible. This was no exception. I’m a firm believer in the people that ‘know’ how to kiss don’t have to put on a big show to prove it to everyone else.

Anyway, dinner was served and was quite good. The cake was also good (just the right amount of frosting) and then they had a presentation of pictures of the bride and groom in various stages of life and was set to music. Very classy. The dance started shortly after and we busted a few moves. My mom loves to dance but my dad puts up a good fight not to. He’s not too smooth on his feet, but he tries really hard. Story of my life ;) By then it was time to leave, so we headed out the door and met the bride and groom on our way out.

Headed back to my parent’s house and got changed for the party. Made it to the guys’ place by 10:45 or so. The party had mostly winded-down by then, but we got a chance to visit with friends. My friend Brian was going to be dressed as a robot, but instead had a big afro wig on and some vintage clothes. It was a 60s-70s-80s themed party. He found the wig in the garbage outside a frat house and spray painted it black (it was rainbow colored). I tried it on and it was rather itchy. But no cooties as of yet, so I think it was safe. Stayed until midnight and hit the road, knowing we’d be back for the Packer game in less than 12 hours.

Sunday
Woke up and unloaded the car (including the Gazelle machine). Had some breakfast and cleaned up the apartment a bit. Marie and Liz (who stayed over at the guys’) were going to go our for brunch while I played my next Madden game, so we showed up around 10 and the ladies went to get some food. I played the Lions (who were 5-1) and got humiliated. Hasslebeck got injured and I had to go with Brock Huard. It was a sign of what was to come. I think in the off-season, I’ll be getting a new quarterback. Defense is playing well, but the offense is pretty abysmal. Anyway, most of the party attendees made their way over and we watched the Packers narrowly defeat the Bucs. What a poorly officiated game. I fear the Bears next week, should be one hell of a game.

After that, Marie and I left and went to set-up our Gazelle. I used it for about 20 minutes or so and felt like I was getting a pretty good workout. Easy to do a variety of exercises, all on the same piece of equipment. Watched more football, spent some time on-line and applied for a position in Fond du Lac. I think I’m pretty set on switching jobs, but I’ve got such good benefits where I’m at, it’ll be hard to leave. I’m still undecided, but just finding out if they are interested in me at this point.

Which brings us back to the present. Or at least, as I write this. Pretty fast morning, some paperwork to do and resume screening. Tonight Marie and I have some grocery shopping to do and I think I might do some on-line shopping. Marie’s birthday is a month from today, so I’d best get some good ideas in place.
